I have been reading news out of COP26, Glasgow , as I'm sure everyone else has.
It has left me considering what I am expected to contribute to improving our chances, and indeed on a personal level , what any of us can do to make any significant change.
Surely we rely on governments and global business to shape our world, and as individuals we are largely powerless ... or do you see action available to individuals ?

Stop chugging around the country in your boat in the name of pleasure. Buy a kite instead.

Rog You’re expected to contribute more money, if you can’t, you’re irrelevant. They're not interested in how to solve it unless there is money to be made.

I'm fitting solar water and elec to the house to reduce my dependence on the grid supplies and thus CO2 generated. Turned the thermostat down by 1degC to reduce gas use, I draw the line at fitting a heat pump 😱

They'll take your money. That's not enough so they'll take your kid's money and given that this is insufficient the money of their kids too. This is all insufficient so they'll just print the stuff, reducing the value of any money you have left.

We plan to fit solar, but little else you can do for gas really as heat pumps, bio boilers are not really feasible for the average home.
The day the world comes together to combat global warming will never come, look at China and the shit they pump out through coal power stations, they have no desire to cease using them.
We are all doomed, its just when.

You can cut down on wasting energy. It’s one thing to consume carbon based energy when you are getting something useful out of it, but completely pointless to waste energy for no good reason. I know I have a fairly “high carbon” lifestyle but I do try to avoid eg leaving lights on, having the heating on when we’re not there etc etc. it’s amazing how many people at the gliding club just leave lights on all over the place. Unfortunately it seems that if it’s not hitting you in the pocket, or if you can afford to waste energy, most people don’t give a shit. Ditto with plastic I have always used soap bars in the shower, but most people it seems use single use plastic bottles of shower gel. And wet wipes which are laced with plastic. Etc etc

I have tried to be as low carbon as possible, 4.6kw of solar gives me most of the year on my own lecce, the electric drive means no emissions whist going places, heating is mainly by well seasoned wood, the genny on the boat and the bubble stove use HVO, toilet composting, so no energy in treating waste as its used on the allotment. Vehicle wise electric pick up truck with solar, little electric car charged from solar on boat, I3 electric car, the camper is diesel but I fitted a modern engine with cat and its on HVO as well. Unfortunately Rog there is plenty for you to do to help reduce emissions so have a google on your new fone and get to it

Well having sorted out the heating so I am warm I now have gone back to sitting in a cooler house with blankets round my legs...nocked thermostat down several degrees. Rarely use car Lights on only when its very gloomy. Recycle what I can
As an individual I think I'm doing some.. possibly not enough.. I sit thinking, in reality for the future I shouldn't go off on these trips that I did in the past. Thats gonna be the tough one.

Reduce food miles by buying from local sources and only buy stuff that is in season the UK/locally. Grow stuff at home if poss. Conserve energy. Eat less or no meat. Recycle more. Buy used not new. Re purpose stuff.

Live like a caveman and we may prolong the life of the earth a little bit. The planet will be much happier without us. After 10,000 years or so not much will remain. It's so 'Planet of the Apes'.
