Rumours, without any evidence, of a party at No. 10 a year ago started circulating recently. For sure Bojo was not present. It seems Bojo enquired of his staff who said there was no party and no rules broken, which he passed on. A video emerged with some rather odd behaviour that might indicate a party really did happen, but certainly not hard proof. Bojo has now announced there is an official investigation into exactly what did happen. It was fairly obvious from the last few days that this wasn't going away, No 10 isn't a private house, it is an office covered in cctv cameras (apart from a smallish flat). The idea Boris decided to rely on his staff to supply him with what happened at best shows his naviety. It is covered in CCTV but do you think they keep the recordings for a year? I doubt it.

There was a party, his staff at No 10 had a party, no 10 is where Boris lives. The press knew there had been a party, somebody had grassed them up but didn't want it known who they were. It's obvious listening to the video there had been a party from the smirking tones and jollity. It's just another string of lies amongst many from Boris. No. 10 is a large building routinely (even in lockdown) with a significant number of staff. It is mostly government offices. Above the government offices is Bojo and Queen Carrie’s personal flat, where he lives. I don’t think the accusations are that there was a party in his flat, it is that there was a party in the government offices below. The accusation is that civil servants held a party in his absence in the government buildings. I am struggling to see how he can be held responsible for that. Let’s say it was a regular business, the boss creates rules about “no parties or other social gatherings”. The boss is away for a few days, during which time the workers disobey him and have a party. Would you think that the boss was responsible for his workers’ wrongdoing? I would say the video points to there having been a party, but it’s not hard evidence and it’s not “obvious” although I might give you “likely”. A lie is something you say which is not true and you know it to be not true. If bojo’s staff have denied having a party and he has repeated what they have said, that is not a lie until he knows it wasn’t true. An investigation is happening after which he and we will know whether what he said was true or not. Don't disagree with much of what you are saying, except Boris should have initiated the investigation days ago (it really isn't going to take significant time - apart from the possible time spent on the political spin and working out what punishments will be deemed acceptable...).
PS. Boris and his Queen live at No 11.

We are I believe, the sixth wealthiest economy in the world. Yet we have serious child poverty, homelessness, and social care problems, all of which could be (to a large degree) fixed very speedily. Instead of effective government and opposition, we endure these media lead squalls that let both government and opposition off the hook. Should we not be holding the buffoon Boris and his pals to account for their real failings ? Rog I agree. Although to be fair, Bojo has been preoccupied with the Covid thing that came in almost as soon as he came to power. And it’s not like any previous governments of any colour did any better.

There's no opposition from anyone intelligent because covid is real. Saying no to precautions because numpties didn't take precautions is a daft idea. The Darwin effect will win out. Precautions forever then Jim? Maybe your not as intelligent as you think you are!

Yes he could have handled it more quickly, but of course we shouldn’t forget that until the video emerged yesterday, it was nothing more than tittle tattle. You can’t launch an investigation every time someone gives an anonymous tip-off of wrongdoing especially when it’s a year later and thus pretty obviously sour grapes.

I'd be surpised if they didn't, I know of several far less important places that keep cctv for 3 or 6 months. Memory is dirt cheap compared to what it was.

Jeez never thought I’d make several posts defending Bojo, but I think we need to see this for what it actually was / might have been / might not have been. As rog says, we should be concentrating on the policies and effectiveness, not the tittle tattle.

Memory is dirt cheap compared to what it was. One reason for not keeping the recording for any longer than necessary is to ensure that incriminating stuff is lost!

I think that was inevitable after the video was leaked. But anyway, who would employ someone named after an exceptionally crappy British car?

Intelligent enough to follow the science, Intensive care is now cluttered with the unvaccinated, overloading nurses unnecessarily, when they have had a very hectic time and are knackered by it all. Viruses do seem to ameliorate in their severity as they get more infectious, they are trying to work out if this is the case with omicron. In the end it will hopefully be down to a jab or two a year and we get back to normal. Presuming enough have the jab and don't just follow Tracy on FB.

I don’t have a great deal of respect for Bojo’s integrity, but in this particular case these seem to be the facts: Rumours, without any evidence, of a party at No. So none of that seems particularly dramatic. What is bad is that rumour and speculation from the press and media has caused a lot of anger and distress especially amongst those people who couldn’t see their loved ones last Christmas and/or those whose loved ones died alone. So as usual a whole lot of anger and upset generated on the back of some rumours lacking any hard facts. Just like Trump’s claim that the presidential election was rigged and a million other such bits of fake news. It first needs to be established whether a party flouting the rules did actually take place. If so, the no.10 staff involved need to be subject to disciplinary action. Assuming Bojo definitely wasn’t personally involved and didn’t condone it, I am struggling to see why it might be a resigning matter for him. Wrong (yet again🙄). He lives at number 11. “Prime Minister Boris Johnson and wife Carrie are expecting another child together, after welcoming son Wilfred in 2020 and suffering a tragic miscarriage earlier this year which left them "heartbroken". Boris has the unique set-up of living next door to his place of work, residing in a flat at No 11 Downing Street.”

You always remind me of the loyal Soviet peasant stood outside his wooden village hovel, waving his red pennant and cheering as Stalin's motorcade passes by. If it wasn't for the media you would never have known there had been a "pandemic". Your masters party at Downing Street and sneer at you even as you humbly tug your forelock and toe the party line obediently. Meanwhile we are facing another lockdown and yet more destruction of the economy over a variant that has not killed one single person. We will never get "back to normal" as long as poor wooden-headed saps fall for the nonsense hook line and sinker.
