When you start using the batteries in the morning does SmartGauge change its setting? Or does it start counting down from wherever it was?

i ru a 12v freezer thats on all night so the SG shows less than it did the night before, today i charged to 85% when it went into float, i turned the genny off at 6.30pm and the SG still says 85% with 12.70v

Which charger do you have? We can maybe help you to optimise the settings.

Yes sounds like the charger is going to float too soon. This is a charger issue not a Smartgauge issue which is just as well as no-one in this forum knows anything about the Smartgauge. I believe it was a Victron charger and they have a thing called "adaptive charging" which in general is pants. Better to change it fixed absorption or in fact, if only ever charging with a genny set all the voltages including float to 14.4 or whatever. Float is only relevant for a charger plugged permanently into shore power.

Although it depends on the capability of the charging device I do find it tends to under-read mid charge. However it is pretty accurate during discharge and so once the charging is stopped, it "freezes" the reading until the actual state of charge falls to the indicated state of charge, then it will carry on as normal.

victron 3000 multi plus, if i left the genny on would it eventually get to 100%

victron 3000 multi plus, if i left the genny on would it eventually get to 100% Yes it would but it would take hours and hours. It's set up in default to run from mains where it would be running 24/7. See Nick's post a couple up from here about setting it up. Holler if you're unsure how 😀

Better to change the settings so it doesn't go to float, although in the short term, switching the Victron off and on again will put it back into bulk and the absorb, but it may go to float again before 100% is reached. Definitely take it off "adaptive".

victron 3000 multi plus, if i left the genny on would it eventually get to 100% Technically you'll never get exactly to 100%. It's a bit like mowing the lawn. I used to get it to 90% of how my ex wife wanted it. However to make it 100% I'd be dead by now.

True but I think the question relates to getting 100% SoC showing on the SG rather than an actual 100% SoC which as you say, can only be asymptotically approached. Well ok you didn't say that, I did!

Or just trying to tempt a certain person out of hiding... I did wonder exactly that actually. I think it's great that people on forums want to help but maybe we shoukd be a little more humble in our approach. The good intent is there, why can't we share it nicely.

I run the same set up, though without sg. I just set the victron up from pc, as per instructions. I can't remember what I set float at, but according to my bmv, I hit 100% with Genny.
