Can't argue with that Seems rather harsh to me, but wouldn't do for us to always agree. The truth of it is we're all just old fogies with no power to change anything ... but if I ruled the world ... Rog

But why moan about it being an hour when it's only a quarter of that, might as well say it takes four and a half hours if you walk. Point of order, Heathrow express is 5.50 advance ticket and the underground is six quid, faster and cheaper. I wrote it's an hour on the Underground. You seem to struggle to grasp that point. It's also only 5 minutes for Superman to fly. Last time I looked 3 years ago Heathrow Express was £22 per person - probably about £28 now. "By booking your Heathrow Express journey at least 90 days in advance, you could get a one-way ticket from just £5.50**. **Based on a £5.50 one-way Express Saver ticket purchased online or through our mobile app at least 90 days before travel. Limited availability." Great - if you want to buy a ticket at least 90 days in advance! And: "you could". Bet if you go to find one, there's "limited availability" and there aren't any! Nope - it's £28 to you, matey! And about £4 on the Underground. No I read your point. And gave another option, for those that don't want to sit on the underground for an hour. Which I dont deny is true. £25 quid. And £6 not 4.of you want quick travel then there could be a price for it. But it is available for £5.50. Other routes and options available too.

Cash £6.00 Who is going to book a train ticket at least 90 days in advance, and, as it says, "limited availability" which means, in practice, "none available". Anyway, Heathrow Express only takes you to Paddington... so then you have to dig your Oyster Card out to continue your journey! Oyster cards....... Really you are so out of date...

Rog What I was trying to point out in my allegorical way way that just chucking money as a short term fix for a problem is rarely successful. I get the impression that you were proposing to spend the money allocated to HS2 on increasing benefits and creating homes for the homeless. But that is addressing the symptoms, not the cause. If you want the country to have plenty of disposable wealth to help the disadvantaged, that wealth has to be created and a first step to doing that is to update the infrastructure which has been pretty much unchanged for decades. Or in the case of the railways, centuries. I would support efforts to “level up” and tackle obscene wealth in the face of poverty, but I can’t see how failing to update transport infrastructure has any part in that.

The size of the UK land mass and the population density doesn't seem to make High Speed rail sensible. It's actually very noisy. France is a good example of a country with vast areas of completely uninhabited land. The UK has some but not nearly as much. I'm no expert but I reckon the actual time saving achieved by "getting out of Birmingham faster" will be less than anticipated because of things like noise problems and other impacts on population. Plus of course the time it takes to get the thing moving at a proper high speed. It's pointless. But you are perpetuating the myth that it’s just about cutting a few minutes off the journey time. When in fact it is mostly about increasing rail capacity. Yes, it's mostly about freeing up the West Coast Main Line to run more container trains from Felixstowe and Thamesport to the Daventry, Hams Hall and Trafford Park Rail Freight Terminals. Theoretically I should be opposed to anything which removes baby-killing juggernauts from the roads but practically I shall be at the very least retired when it comes to fruition and almost certainly brown bread.

Oyster cards....... Really you are so out of date... Would you care to explain? Oyster cards are still in use. According to tfl's website. Is there a new contactless card? The Oyster 'touchposts' are still in place. Tap in, tap out. I know credit cards can also be used. Not sure about smartphones, whether they have an app or not, but as our Oystercards have worked fine so far, have never looked into it. You still haven't said what's wrong with Crossrail's map. Have Crossrail made a mistake? Hardly anyone uses an Oyster card anymore, most just use any credit or debit card or phone.
Nothing wrong with CR map as something that is planned to open. Lots wrong with the original map you posted. You still haven't said where you got it from....

P.s Paddington is in the city of Westminster, in central London. No idea why you are defending a service that you completely slated not long ago. Other options are available.

Oyster cards....... Really you are so out of date... I use an Oyster card, it’s more convenient. Really, you are such a fickle twat. Ive Always used my debit card. Pay as you go rates and daily caps are the same as an oyster card. More convenient for me as I don't want an oyster card for five trips a year and not taking away the convenience for you.

A lot, because they save 20 quid. You’ve again jumped into something you know fuck all about and purely relied on a Google search.

Where is your evidence that "hardly anyone uses an Oyster card anymore" ? We still have three with money on, so will use them next time we're in town. Both Crossrail maps look identical to me - the exciting holiday destinations of Abbey Wood and Shenfield at one end, with the glamorous Hayes & Harlington at the other from where the spur to Heathrow heads down to the tunnels beneath the airport. That's about it, really. So maybe you can sit on a train and go through London without having to change at Paddington or Liverpool Street, but at the end of the day it's all pretty much what was there in the first place. Like the Thameslink - just seamless instead of having to get off and on again, but the same old railways more or less. The Eurostar was impressive when I used it twice - 2h15m to Paris. Now, that is something. Unfortunately France has gone all Nazi over the Vaxx Passes and nobody wants to go there any more. OK I admit that I was using 'hardly anyone' as a turn of phrase. Most by a big margin use contactless cards now. Better?....

For London users it’s a godsend and an important part of the territory.
