No it wasn't, because "Great Britain" is a geographical term, describing the greater landmass of the British Isles, not a political construct. I think you will find lots of people in Scotland, Wales and the north of Ireland who think that Great Britain is a political construct. Only thick people. "Great Britain" describes the largest landmass of the British Isles, nothing more or less and this landmass remains unchanged by any political union or affiliation, or the dissolution of such.

Vehicles now have to display UK stickers and not GB when being used abroad. It was changed to be inclusive of Northern Ireland, which previously also used the GB country code even though NI is not part of Great Britain.

There are plenty of pages on the internet which explain it Kris, but basically Scotland could declare full independence, build a modern hi-tech version of Hadrian's Wall, and then never let one Scottish person out nor one English person in, but Scotland would still be a part of Great Britain.

You live in England, the British Isles, Great Britain, the United Kingdom and the continent of Europe. What you are saying is a bit like me saying "I don't live in England, I live in Warwickshire".

So do you consider yourself English or British? I think you need to look up the origin of Great Britain as a term to describe these islands.

The term Great Britain was first used officially in 1474, in the instrument drawing up the proposal for a marriage between Cecily, daughter of Edward IV of England, and James, son of James III of Scotland, which described it as "this Nobill Isle, callit Gret Britanee".
This sounds like a political situation to me, all royal weddings where political arrangements. Anyway I’ll leave you imperialists to keep thinking you live in Great Britain. I’ve got some bad news for you, we don’t have an empire anymore.

So do you consider yourself English or British? Well, when I was in the SAS and I had to fill in forms where I was asked my nationality I was told from the outset to write Brit/Eng so I guess both.
