Belonging to an old boat, takes a lot of time and effort ? Regards kris I think you have to stay on top of whatever Boat you have maintenance wise or else you end up living in a bath with a tarpaulin for a roof. I often smile when I see a new shiny boat, you talk to their owner and they are under the impression it will stay like that forever.I always tell anyone thinking of becoming a boater £35_£40000 max anything more then you will always sell at a loss.

Belonging to an old boat, takes a lot of time and effort ? Regards kris If you are talking about old wooden boats, I would say that belonging to one is akin to slavery. It requires a level of commitment that is off the wall, certifiable, lunatic .
I am fortunate, my owner is a 90 year old steel boat, that just requires idiocy

I'm lucky my owner is an 83 year old steel boat, so only a slight madness was required.

She was built in 1929 as a 100 ton dumb barge for the transport of oil by Harkers rebuilt possibly in the 30's (?) as a motorised tanker of 80 tons. sold out of the oil trade in the 60's to P Horlock of Mistley for the sulphuric acid run from the Thames up the East Coast. Bought by David Babsky and brought down to the Thames as a liveaboard. ended up a sinker was refloated and taken to Barking by Bill Blaik where I bought it, just in time to prevent it being bodged, now about 20 years ago

sorry still having problems putting pictures on here even from flickr when ever I manage to get it sorted I'll put some on.
I have a particularly crappy internet signal at the moment and that might be part of the trouble

Moored at Benfleet on the Tidal Thames (Near Southend-on-Sea, with both boats at the moment ! there is a good fairly recent picture of I'm still waiting for the man with the trailer to move Shapfell) that is beginning to piss me off a bit as that's time wasting on my gold licence !!!! My photo's are on Flickr under mudlarker2 but they are a real mishmash !!!! There is a decent fairly recent photo of Sabina H on CWDF quite near the last post on Sheffield size barges in historical section of CWDF
