Regards kris An old Scotish MFV built 1934 as a herring fisher. Nicked by the Admiralty in 1940 for war work, Suggestions that she took part in the Shetland Bus Runs but I never found any evidence for this. Converted to livaboard in the 70's. Larch on Oak. When she was decomissioned in 1945 the navy replaced her original Petter engine for a Gardner 4L3W which is still plodding on. I used to have her moored at Thunderbolt Pier at Chatham Historic Dockyard and the Pic is one of my annual dry dock sessions in a small boatyard up Otterham creek on the Medway.

I love the hull shape of those old MFV's.....proper boats for any weather there is one the other side of the creek from me but unfortunately bastardised with an abortion of a deck house

I love the hull shape of those old MFV's.....proper boats for any weather there is one the other side of the creek from me but unfortunately bastardised with an abortion of a deck house She was designed to bob about in the north sea, Theres been a couple of times we've rolled almost onto beam end but she always bobbed back. Not the most comfortable of rides but you certainly felt safe. Before I bought Emblem I looked at a 60' ex admiralty MFV that was moored at the yard in Otterham Creek. She was in a very sad state and just before I went on board the owner said "hang on", flicked a switch shore side and the pumps came on. Someone had covered her decks in GRP probably to avoid having to re-plank and the whole thing just sagged everywhere you walked. Went down below and didnt need any lighting as there was plenty of sunshine coming in through the gaps in the hull She never sold and eventually the yard owner towed her out into the creek and put a torch to her. Very sad. I always thought Emblems Wheel House was quite a decent Job for the size of boat This was her prior to conversion

Definitely a nice looking boat saltysplash, I don't think I'd want a wooden boat. But I would love the Gardner.

Your dead right, that wheelhouse conversion was nicely balanced. It looks right on her. Like Kris, when it comes to owning a wooden boat.....I'll pass :-). I love wooden boats but I prefer other people to own them, and just let me go out for trips !

Loving the pics on the thread. I prefer narrow boats but thats just my thing but I can appreciate the love and craftsmanship that went into making your boats so beautiful. If I couldnt have a narrow boat I would love one of the old Thornycroft MTBs 70ft of diagonal mahogany planking and three stonking great engines to push her onto the plane, be great on the broads.

Great looking boat John. I'd quite like summat like that, especially if sea-going.
How DO you post a picture on here?
