Hi all My friend has come across this whilst clearing out his recently deceased father's stuff. Any ideas as to what it is and what it is used for? Not sure why image isn't showing. Help?

I think it might be an old wire stripper.
Uploading the picture into the Google Image search produces some interesting results.

I think it might be an old wire stripper. Uploading the picture into the Google Image search produces some interesting results. At looking at the first pic, I was going to suggest a very old form of a adjustable wrench Which I 'think' you English folk refer to them as a monkey wrench But after looking at the two smaller pics, I'd have to say they do look more like a form of wire stripper.

Was he a woodworker? It looks very like an old Saw Set.

Was he a woodworker? It looks very like an old Saw Set. You are absolutely right (well a "Saw Wrest") As a woodworker who collects vintage woodworking tools I am ashamed to admit I didn't recognise it.

Me too I have never seen one with the adjustable bit in the middle before out of interest, what kind of Woodwork do you do? I kind of dabble in a bit of spoon carving and green woodwork and have an addiction to old tools at carboot sales
