I think I've got five windlasses, long throw, short throw, single socket, double socket, plain, painted. I'm not sure any of them could be described as "interesting" though? Here's a thought I like: if you're not sure what to buy someone for Christmas, how about a new shiny windlass? They may think "That's weird" and keep it as an ornament, but one day it will dawn on them, perhaps from watching canal clips on Youtube, that they have a windlass and could have a go at narrowboating... and thus get introduced into this way of life. A windlass on the mantlepiece will puzzle/impress visitors. It can also be used for whacking burglars round the lug 'oles if you find them in your living room at 2am.

Unless I missed them, I haven't seen a single piccy of a windlass on this thread yet.
Are they all hidden away, or too beautiful to show them only to avoid jealousy ?
