i think this forum is on a downward spiral if politics are allowed over the road, i hope not cus i like it here Although I fully support them reinstating the politics section simply because I do believe that folks should be "allowed" to discuss what ever they are interested in; I don't think it would have much of an effect on this forum to be honest. The problems with the heavy handed moderation, the consistency of moderation, the no , the removal/locking of the two legal threads and all the bloody fluffy rabbits & the being treated like children All of the above would still need to be resolved in order for it to have a major effect on this forum IMO. I really can't see the likes of the 3 Tony's / Nick / Peter / Nigel or Dave M. or any of the other experts going back there full time just because they've reinstated the Political debate section. I'd hazard a guess, they are all looking for bigger changes than that to entice them back full time; mostly to do with the MOD's removing or locking posts & threads. you All of course just my opinion I like it here, and even if I ever do decide to start posting there again, I won't leave here. Here's just comfortable; where you can be either silly or serious and no one seems to mind either way. With the exception of the technical threads where we are asked to stay on topic, which is fair enough IMO as you really don't want to be reading a bunch of waffle when you need proper help/assistance & the 'experts' can easily see if someone is giving out the wrong info and jump in a correct it quickly. I like it here....have I mentioned that?

i think this forum is on a downward spiral if politics are allowed over the road, i hope not cus i like it here I disagree. Even if they let me mod a Current Affairs section over there I would still come over here for a proper rough and tumble. I think TB has established itself already and will always have enough activity to be worthwhile.

Sorry Foxy, I don't understand the link between what I posted and the 2 links you've provided. Maybe I wasn't very clear...I personally couldn't give a toss if they allow political discussion/debate or not, as I don't remember ever making a contribution to a political thread either here or there (with the exception of the Trump/Clinton thread). , But I strongly believe there is enough room in that place, that folks should indeed be able to converse on any subject they want to, well without en-sighting terrorism or treason or which breaks a British law; and anything short of that is nothing less than narrow minded censorship. Yes, it's a boating forum, and the one thing everyone has in common is the canals, rivers & boats, so it would therefore be reasonable to assume the most topics would indeed involve boating in one forum or another. How they can say "yes you can talk about politics as long as it directly effects boating" and then lock/remove the original Brexit thread!! Can anyone tell me what aspect of boating Brexit won't have an effect on? The cost of diesel, coal, hiring, gas, food, beverage, oil, replacement parts for engines (Barrus Shire for one example, don't think they are made in the UK), steel, drink? And that's just off the top of my pretty little non-political head. Am I interested in reading what other boaters think on the topic? You bet your bottom dollar I am, but that doesn't make me a political dissident or does it? Sorry for the rant, spent too much time reading posts on the other site and watching Carlt fighting what looks to be a one man battle

i think this forum is on a downward spiral if politics are allowed over the road, i hope not cus i like it here Politics with Dan's rules and Dan's penchant for excluding those who don't agree with him? Yes, that's the thing, Daniel doesn't seem to understand that people can have different viewpoints to his, and he simply will not tolerate opinions which do not fit in with his mindset. Until he matures sufficiently to be able to understand that it should not be the role of a forum administrator to sanction anybody who does not agree with him, then I can't see political discussion ever going well on CWDF.

I think a reinstated CA would be the busiest forum in the place.Just look at the traffic generated on the discussion.

If anyone really wants to make this place a success, simply stop posting on cwf and just post on here, it's already churning through threads as fast as I remember cwf. They will come, it's better here, no composing of complex answers to avoid the rules being broken. No deleted threads so you have to live with anything you post, like real life. It's like being on holiday! It's not that I particularly want to swear on line, though I'm pretty sweary in real life, it's knowing that I can if I want and big brother couldn't give a shit. Whoops I swore. Dan restoring the political thread thing seems a month or so too late to me and knowing of his shoot from the hip style of moderating, would anyone really believe he wouldn't shut it down again in the future in a hissy fit when he couldn't be bothered to think about it (again). Like Betty, I try not to get drawn into endless arguements on politics - nobody changes there point of view do they? But I know others just love it and why not? This forum wouldn't exist without it so it ain't all bad. Just not on cwf with their thought police ready to pounce. If they didn't like your political views they'd find a different excuse to ban you, political sub forum or not. I wouldn't trust them.
