Just to confirm that following the towpath talk I heard today stating that the Caldon Canal is to re-open at 17:00 on Friday (one month early), I have just phoned CRT and a rather cheerful operative called Jack confirmed that this is true, the canal will be navigable with care as there will still be work boats in the area.

Well, that's annoying .... turned back at Stone as I thought there was still a month or more to wait and I don't take on the Stoke flight lightly... Enjoy the Caldon, Mr Stabby and all others who make it! A great place to be.

Another narrow escape. One day my ship will come in .... Well, I've only seen you very briefly in passing but you seemed nice and I certainly wouldn't want to inflict myself on someone like that.

Jane's pestering me to know if the locks opened Mr Stabby ... I keep telling her if they did you'll be heading out of Stoke at pace so are unlikely to answer until later. But I don't want her smacking me in the nose again so let us know you're okay when you can Rog

I do feel considerable empathy with Donny Osmond. While it might seem flattering to have young women continually throwing their moist knickers at you, it does actually start to become quite tedious after a while.

Rog Maybe but I just got tied up as the train was leaving Consall so I didn't have time, and then when it got back to Froghall after the return journey the loco broke down so they had to replace it with a diesel engine for the second run of the day.

Tied up so soon? There and back already? I always thought narrowboaters and steam train enthusiasts took their time ........ I had overnight stops at Milton and Cheddleton on the way and got to Consall this morning. So all quite leisurely given that the Caldon is only 17 miles long. I did originally plan to go to Froghall Basin, however, when I got to Consall- one of the few places on the network where I have no mobile phone signal or internet- a text message from my sister had arrived earlier saying my Mum had been taken back into hospital so I did start back today so that I could get back to Cheddleton where I have a phone signal so I could get in the loop. Now I just don't know what to do. Part of me feels I should have carried on back to the mooring when I started heading down the Coventry Canal a few weeks ago and I'm currently minded to head for home now. I'm struggling to focus on the boating with all this uncertainty going on with Mum.
