"19:46
With just 15 minutes to go, here are the numbers...
- Around 334 Tory MPs have now voted in the confidence vote in Boris Johnson which was triggered yesterday
- Mr Johnson needs 180 votes in his favour to stay on as Prime Minister and Conservative leader
- Daily Mail deputy politics editor John Stevens has counted 157 public declarations of support for Mr Johnson so far
- A slim majority in favour of Mr Johnson's premiership could result in more trouble when his Government when it tries to pass legislation".
So with 26 MPs still to vote, Johnson needs the support of 23 of them.

Christ on a bike does this mean we get an Indian super-rich robovoice unelected prime minister?
What is it with this country? Too many unelected prime ministers about.
It's good if the awful Boris Johnson "you should have just stayed in Henley you twit" goes but...

Win or lose the vote tonight, he'll be gone before the years end I suspect ... too many MP's will be concerned about losing their seats unless they ditch him. But nothing will change ... it never does Rog

Interesting to see who the blue rinse brigade put in after him. Surely it must be someone with a chance of winning the next election.
I actually think Raab might do a good job of it but he's probably not got the status.
Interesting to have a look at the betting shops.

Boris has to go after Partygate. Having said that, Sir Beer is no better so perhaps he should be next for the chop.

148 votes against must be much worse than he'd expected ... the knives will be being sharpened as we speak.
I'm sure they'll swiftly replace one blustering buffoon with another, but nothing meaningful will change.

Sunak 12/1 must be tempting.
Jeremy "Hunt" seems to be the favourite but the bookies still have Johnson as PM it would seem..

So now that's settled, they can all F off. This issue should've all been put to bed a long time ago but the media have made a concerted effort to keep it at the forefront as has Starmer and all with the intention of getting rid of the bloke who dished out countless millions to furlough the country, likewise extra Universal Credit etc etc, in essence did a pretty good job at keeping the country afloat. The screaming hordes seem to think there is a magic money tree, sadly there is not and all the money borrowed has to be paid back

I do wish that people could see past politicians personal behaviour and learn to judge overall performance.
At times Boris behaves like a bit of a twit and his personal behaviour leaves a fair bit to be desired but he is not employed to be a personal representative of the UK.
He is employed to do a job and when compared to the behaviour of many governments over the last couple of years the UK has done pretty well.
Some cock ups but better than most and a damn sight better than many.
Anyone who believes that any major political group in the UK, is more venal than any other needs to visit history and read biographies of the "great" prime ministers.
People in general have feet of clay and politicians are no different. The choice should always be "Who is likely to do a better job"
The one who cares the most and is the most presentable .......might not be the one who can actually do the job.
Putting up with a right bastard might be worth it if they are brilliant at their job
(by the way, I am not suggesting that I think Boris brilliant .... I don't .... but I do think him a better choice than many of the other possibles in the front running)

Theresa May won a confidence vote by a greater margin but was gone within six months. I think Johnson will struggle to command a Government, two-fifths of whose members want to oust him. I think "Partygate" will ultimately prove fatal for him, not because of what he did, but for the punishments we faced for doing the exact same, and the attendant realisation that we had been lied to all along. I imagine the next round of local elections will see him off.

So the turd is still floating around the pan, festering and stinking. Despite many of us having had enough of Boris, including 41% of tory MPs, the split tory party is staggering on. There has been a collapse of faith in the prime minister in his own party. While there might possibly have been a PM more venal than Boris, none were convicted while in office and that is no excuse at all to keep him. Two wrongs don't make a right.
All this is to Labour's benefit, the longer the chaos reigns, the closer to the next election we get, before the tories get their act together, the better. Two By-elections due shortly, that will be most entertaining.

But nothing will change ... it never does Rog Let’s hope so. Not that I think any of the others are any better. This all passed me buy. The joys of not paying any attention to the tv or news. Ps I’ve e read the rest of the thread and see that he’s still there, oh well he’ll begone, there’s no way he will lead the tories into the next election. Unless he calls a snap election.

All this is to Labour's benefit, the longer the chaos reigns, the closer to the next election we get, before the tories get their act together, the better. Whereas a party led by a man who says that "the majority of women don't have penises" has its act together?
