Try googling Cornwall and Lithium. No children needed.
How do you propose we stop climate change then? No googling, cnpeeing, your own honest answer.

Mass suicide by people aged over 55 would help !
I'll do my bit if you do yours.

Why do we want to stop 'climate change' anyway? The climate has always been changing. There used to be dinosaurs in East Lancashire - the cold killed them off. The quicker those glaciers melt the quicker we can have some more water.

To reply to the title, because it is done by people who are motivated by maximum profit with out any regard for the environment or any other human beings that are in it. The same as any mineral extraction we’ve done on this planet.

"What is the real plan behind it though? An electric car charge uses as much electricity as the average house does in a week. There are 29 million homes in the U.K. and 37 million cars. If 37 million cars were electric it would be like (if cars are recharged every 2 weeks) another 19 million homes plugged into the grid. There don’t seem to be any plans to increase power production/the grid by 64%. There appears to be a plan to throttle grid supplies via smart meters and also to pull power back out of vehicle batteries at peak times (losing 15% each way due to “inverter losses” – you really couldn’t make this shit up). But even these measures won’t make up for the grid shortfall from a country full of electric cars. I can only conclude that the politicians plan to whittle the UK car count down from 37 million to??? 5-10 million maybe. In other words remove personal transport from the plebs. Watch out - these people are planning to take YOUR car off the road in the very near future."

...the politicians plan to whittle the UK car count down... The chap who wrote that must be a real genius. Personal transportation will definitely become an expensive luxury. This is why things like e-scooters will eventually be accepted despite all the objections and drawbacks (like the tool using it). It's not a 'plan' by 'evil politicians'. It'll just happen as a result of the most basic sort of economics. There is an upside to this. If there are far fewer cars and vans on the road, and when it's accepted that e-scooters and such are ok to use on-road (just a matter of time), they become much safer for the user (and everyone else). Fewer cars = declining rate of fatal RTAs.

From personal observation I would question your last paragraph UNLESS the police start enforcing the laws in place AND there is a compulsory test. As you say, it is the tools using them, but they speed through crowded pedestrian only areas (along with some cyclists), swerve all over the road, and shoot off pavements across junctions without even slowing down. I even saw an idiot on a privately owned scooter shoot out of a residential road and turn right across the front of a police traffic car with no action being taken against the rider.

Verdict: once the main battery goes in a hybrid car (last for 12 years?) it's more worthwhile to buy another used car than to buy a new battery.
With a petrol/diesel car, every time you fill up is like putting a new battery in! Liquid energy!
