The system deliberately keeps those who might be interested in revolting moderately happy or diverted by full time labour. If this changed then it could get interesting. But it probably won't change. Robots and ai are making humans redundant. This might change the situation some.

If Nuclear Fusion does come along I am concerned as to what the scientists will have for lunch.

Its going to be fun managing an expanding population who are becoming more and more defunct every day.
I think the universal income thing is sensible but there are arguments that everyone would just turn into pizza eating beer drinking layabouts.
I know this worked for me.
Some people have motivation.

I asked the woman if she wanted to live in Norfolk as we went to visit my aunt in Hempstead by Holt and she (woman) enjoyed it.
Norfolk Enchants was the answer.

Universal basic income is going to be inevitable, otherwise how are people going to buy the products the automated factories churn out. As for motivation, greed won’t disappear so people will always have motivation to acquire more.

I’ve lived off grid for along time over 30 years batteries where always the limiting factor now thanks to lithium that constraint has been removed. Generating your own power definately makes you aware of how much you use Technology has been kind to us over the last 10 years, cheap panels, lithium cells and more efficient electronics. That, coupled with energy awareness allows most people with modest means to survive easily off grid (in terms of electricity) for 8 months of the year. Don't tell 'em all!
Can you imagine...
There are millions upon millions of people in this country.

LED lamps have been a boon although I do prefer the old filaments and even quite like the fluorescents.
For a larger boat like the barge I used to have the LED lamps did hugely reduce consumption compared with the old halogen downlighters.
About a tenth of the power consumption.
Interesting to see how the country estate boat goes with 1kw of solar this winter but moored in a well shaded area. Probably not much but hope to get around 20 or 30Ah per day that would cover my usage.

Been 99% off grid since March most I've used has been 1 unit a day and that's only been a couple of days. Not so good this week with all the rain, still our water storage will be full to overflowing if this carries on.

It’s already happened, lots of people are installing solar and batteries I their home. Talking about solar, why isn’t every roof of these big industrial warehouses that have sprung up every where covered in solar? It should be illegal to build a commercial property without, it’s got to make more sense than filling fields of prime agricultural land with panels.

I was thinking off grid meant no connection to mains services.
I know about house installs but this mainly revolves around subsidies and grid feed systems. Good but not off grid.

Problem at the moment is supply, there is a shortage of kit, mainly batteries. Plus my installer is not taking on new business he is saying next year at the earliest for a new install.

Every house should have it installed as standard if it points the right way, really struggle to see why this isn't so already.. bonkers
