Right here: Instead of using a grommet or gland which is designed for the purpose.

buy a 20mm holesaw and fit these (available from almost any electrical supplier) uk.rs-online.com/web/p/cable-glands/6694673/edit to add .... put a smear of sikoflex or the like between steel and base of gland before fixing will ensure no leakage (not round cable) This ^^^^ if you will not need to remove the panels. Also I would suggest that the gland is positioned under the solar panels, gives it some protection from driving rain, that is assuming you are not using stick on panels Other wise use waterproof plugs. Do not try and bodge it, bodges always leak after a while.

Yep simply because it does not sound good, the words are those of a teacher trying to teach a poor student. Lack of respect for others comes to mind. I do not need you to teach me nor wish you to try. BTW I have not the foggiest what a fuckwit is. Not a word I would use

I concur with the box method. I mounted a waterproof cable Junction box on the roof, it has knockouts for gland nut fittings, used a threaded straight "pipe to box" connector to fix the box to the roof, 20mm hole, plenty of polyurethane squidge. I can connect more panels in the junction box, or disconnect existing ones, as required.
Edit to ask; is concur too cwdf/teachers a word, given the last couple of posts? I could just agree in a twattish fashion!
