I am largely still cash-reliant. For a start I find it a lot easier to keep track of finances if I withdraw cash from the Post Office or an ATM (I always use the village Post Office when I can to keep their usage figures up, village Post Offices being somewhat endangered) and then monitor it as it dwindles. Just flashing a piece of plastic means you lose track of this.
It's often quicker and less hassle to pay by cash and for reasons that can only be speculated upon, many Chinese take-aways, including the one in Brinklow are cash only.

The elephant in the room for retailers taking card payments is that there is a handling fee attached to the service.
Its a ransom really isn't it.
Fine while there are other options but what is to stop the banks and card payment service providers increasing the fees?
Is there fair competition here. Obvious question.
non specific search says "Merchant Services Charge: this charge represents the fee to be paid for every debit or credit transaction that you process. Debit cards have a charge that ranges between 0.25% and 0.35%. Standard credit cards have charges that range between 0.7% and 0.9%."
This isn't much but is there any reason why it wouldn't just go up and up over time?
Paypal are a lot more I believe. But it is handy...&c

If it works for you then that's fine but I don't have a watch capable of such a thing and wouldn't be interested in acquiring one and even if I did and I was then it still wouldn't work in the Brinklow House Chinese take-away.

I don't reckon the story about the chinese take away was fake news. They can probably do it cheaper and you might get sore finger.
Whats not to like? Everyone hates the tax man innit.

Money laundering at its finest in the chinkeys, one in Beduff is the same, make you walk round the corner to the cash point.

I do use contactless, and also PayPal for ebay etc but another situation where cash can be King is for example if I need a loaf of bread from the village shop and there are three or four old biddies queueing up to buy their lottery scratchcards and have a natter etc, I can just make eye contact with the shopkeeper while holding up the loaf of bread, plonk £1.60 on the counter and depart the shop and save myself the wait to be served.

The plastic based notes change the whole game.
Having a large wad of cash about one's person is good for mental elf. Up until recently it all felt like it was money but now its just to slippery and liable to get away.
Maybe its just me.

I was a confirmed cash man upto March 2020.
Suddenly no one wanted my cash ... even purchases of pence they wanted contactless.
Suddenly there was no point drawing a wad to fill my wallet as I couldn't spend it.
Now I've been in shops that have said 'Cash Only' and had to walk out ... I no longer carry it.
It is rather freeing ... have bit of plastic the world's your oyster 😁

Whats wrong with using both?
I always ask for cash for any jobs I do but happy to have it paid into my bank if not available.
Pay for all my beer / cocaine / prostitutes with cash no problem and use bank card for rest of my wasted outgoings, boat fees / amazon / speeding fines etc!

Not a lot you can do about it. You can't get a rental car by using cash any more. People who pay by using 'watches' are just show offs ... next they will want the chip under the skin to look 'cool'. They are walking into the trap. How will you spend your social credits? Will the Government allow you to spend them?
