I was a confirmed cash man upto March 2020. Suddenly no one wanted my cash ... even purchases of pence they wanted contactless. Suddenly there was no point drawing a wad to fill my wallet as I couldn't spend it. Now I've been in shops that have said 'Cash Only' and had to walk out ... I no longer carry it. It is rather freeing ... have bit of plastic the world's your oyster π Rog Everyone was told by the psychological behavioural unit at SAGE, with the assistance of the corrupt NHS, that banknotes and coins carried the SARS-CoV2 virus. It worked. 'Covid' is about control. But you still can't see it.

Today we have nail bars.
Tomorrow we will have chip bars.
What about payment chips in fingernails? That could catch on and you can buy your crack at the same time, with the chip (or maybe cash actually).
It is truly terrible.
Thank you for the correction. I did notice it but deemed it unimportant.

People are still a bit twitchy about covid. I was in the post orifice at Canary Wharf earlier for Important Business and a female in the queueue behind indicated to a male that he was too close and there was a virus going about. The male indicated to the female that restrictions were no longer in place. Neither was wearing a mask but I was slightly surprised to note that there was actually someone in the queueueue wearing a mask.
Bad shit but this is about not having cash which is Nothing To Do With Covid.

People have been told that cash carries the virus. So, yes, it is partly to do with 'Covid'. Frighten people so they abandon cash. You can get veruccas from swimming pools. All swimming pools should be shut down (to keep us saaaaaaafe).

I would rather the pools stayed open. It was terrible on the River when they were closed during the Damn Epic as we had endless supplies of idiots swimming. I even saw them in mid winter. Some (not enough) did drown and die.
Keep pools open. Ta.

As a retailer, it would be much better to not accept cash. The amount of time spent on cashing up, counting the safe, finding missing money, ordering change, buying the change and banking etc and etc are all wasted costs.
Costs and time that could be used to help the business or customers.
We will never officially get rid of cash.

Do retailers actually ever do that? Yes and no. As a business we got tablets in stores and pretty smart hand held PC's which meant 95% of my job I could do anywhere in the store, this meant I could spend more time on the shop floor helping customers this could be directly or indirectly. It also meant we went paperless so savings were made Of course, sometimes when time saving processes were brought in, hours were cut. These savings were sometimes used to invest in price reductions, benefiting the customer.

Time / money saving exercises in my local retail stores only seem to result in the introduction of inefficient / time wasting self service tills & lack of the βpersonal touchβ that the checkout operators provideβ¦..Backward steps, which hopefully will be reflected in the βend of yearβ results!

I don't know about the figures but is cash handling more expensive than credit or debit card transaction fees?
One obvious effect is that smaller retailers are knocked out because of their smaller volumes. This is already happening and has been going on for ages but I believe that recently quite a few corner shops have closed their doors and not because of supermarkets directly taking their customers.
Cash will probably always be a way to transact but it is definitely getting more difficult and marginalising certain groups of people.

Something like 5% is charged if you are a business depositing cash in the bank. Way more than 1.69% that Sum-up users pay. Sum-up is a portable credit card system sumup.co.uk/
