Ok i popped in, dont know wy jjst did and seen Dogless`s post from newbies etc who dont post. It will help to have somethign decent to chat about. So maybe this isd not a big chat or slanging thread ( yet ) but a problem to be solved from the tech heads. I have this VP 270 outdrive and i am stuck o removing the mechanical tilt from the collar so it can be refurbed. It has been freed so it turns freely, but yet will not slide out the collar. Anybody any thoughts on what i am doing wrong. CFaffer

Does the motor have to come off to free it ?
@gazza will know.

Take off/dismount the tilt/lift motor, . . .then rotate the spindle that it - the motor - drives as you withdraw the second worm -- the one that comes out with the vertical shaft.

And there isn't a hidden grub screw somewhere under all the paint presumably

Take the motor off, . . and see if that has the effect of freeing anything else off, . . allowing that to be turned and withdrawn at the same time.

NO, . . that's a limiting switch. Dismount the motor first, . . and then see if the first gear set is free to rotate. Heat might well help with that flanged housing, . . going by the external rust that's visible on it. In the photo, . . the motor is the part situated directly above the bucket of emulsified EP oil.

If i sort these tilt mechanisms out ill keep the boat i think. I have been trying to sell it.

If you're going to use heat anywhere on it, . . get the motor and the limiting switch out of the way first -- there's a lot of plastic and other delicate bits and bobs that'll get damaged otherwise.

in this video all he does is remove the grey ( liming switch ) collar, along with the flange bolts. others though dont even remove the limiting switch.
1 minute in

in this video all he does is remove the grey ( liming switch ) collar, along with the flange bolts. others though dont even remove the limiting switch. 1 minute in In that video NO heat is used, . . and NOTHING is badly corroded or seized. On your outdrive heat IS going to be used and you won't know if anything, or what, is corroded or seized until you've got it apart. Minimise the risk of damaging anything (else) by taking the motor off first, . . seeing if that and the spindle it drives is free, . . then get the limiting switch out of the way, . . then set about getting the flanged vertical spindle housing off - using heat if needed, . . which you might well have to. Go very carefully with the heat, . . you've got a ferrous castings and aluminium alloy casing mix which will help. Use minimum heat and force -- warm the casing to start with, . . I'd begin with nothing more savage than a heat gun, . . but don't attempt to move or turn anything UNTIL AFTER you've unshipped the motor and made sure there's nothing internal that's corroded/seized or won't turn. Be very careful about rotating or forcing anything whilst trying to remove it, or free it off, . . you can generate massive damaging internal forces through those worm drives if anything is seized internally or stiff to move, . . the first one - next to the motor is a worm and wheel, . . the second one - the vertical one in the flanged housing - is a worm and nut.

Well that was easy. Once i found out the part i had to remove what nobody else told me about that is lol. just had to remove the end cap which slightly bigger that the hole and the mechanism lifted out easy.
