Hi all just a quick note from me I am ok but working at the garage, I suspect what we are seeing is real climate change, brought on by our addiction to fossil fuels. John and I were discussing this and our conclusions are we are glad we are the age that we are because shortly our world might not be a pleasant place to live.

I did a big service on a diesel XJ6 the owner came to collect and was chatting about his next car, a quick drive in the I3 convinced him it was going to be electric, I think a secondhand model S is on the cards for him

Anyway, I hope during your sales pitch for EVs that you told him they now cost as much to run as a real (petrol) car. As Alice would say, ‘under my wheels’

I suppose an electric glorified shopping trolley is OK if you're just going to use it to pop down to the shops to pick up your fags and a copy of The Soaraway Sun. If you're going to do some serious driving then it's still going to be diesel/petrol.

Or you are as bad as the Fox. I ran a search "electric car costs as much to run as a petrol car" and nothing showed up. Apologies, I was incorrect. The article I read, from the RAC said nearly as much. 18p per mile as opposed to 19p for a petrol car. So I guess the pennies add up. Mind you il happily pay that penny for not being bored to death by having to drive an EV.

It looks like if you go for a bigger and faster car it works out cheaper. Like say the Tesla Model S v A BMW 540i because of the low MPG of the petrol car.
However looking at smaller cars which do 50+mpg it is a different story.
One of the biggest negative factors about electric cars is you are in a position where someone else is in charge (no pun intended) or your independence of transport.
Petrol you fill it up and can do xxx number of miles as and when to wherever you want. Electric car someone else can disable to vehicle at any time remotely.
This could be very helpful in crime reduction but it is a significant move away from individual freedom.
Same with electric v solid fuel or oil heating. You can't stock up on enough electric to run the heating for a whole winter whereas you can stock up on coal or kero.
All a bit dodgy. Inevitable though really as humans become less independent in general.

I thought you've been telling us you've spent many years repairing and servicing fossil-fuel-burning vehicles? You have been part of this and helped to destroy our grandchildrens' future. "Real climate change" - have you taken into consideration the Earth's axial tilt? Or the alternation of the magnetic poles? Or do you just swallow everything that's presented to you on the gogglebox, and from John's 'Fact Finders' site (UK Gov!). Perhaps you could join the Just Stop Oil and glue yourself to the M1? Or go round Sheffield smashing petrol pump meters. We saw glaciers in Norway. They looked a bit cold. Chuck another log on the fire! And what about all that methane escaping from the Nordstream gas pipe in the Baltic Sea - the one that the Americans (allegedly) sabotaged?

Mining is the real problem. Digging out all those precious and non precious materials and redistributing them across the planet in various ways is bound to cause some imbalance.
Nillions of Gallons of oil products converted into gases and heat. Hmm. Its a lot lighter than it was.
Fire will destroy everything in the end.
This Lignite is quite nice. Briquetted "brown coal" seems to burn nice and slowly with not a lot of smoke.

As Alice would say, ‘under my wheels’ Hardly we are still charging for free and Tesco/VW/Podpoint rapids still 28 pence kwh so no problems in my world, i fully expect to pay under a £100 for the the 8k miles we do yearly As for the chap he gets free charging at work so it was an easy conversion for him

The tilt is probably due to climate change so the chain has started , as for the Nordstream sabotage who knows?
