Quick question to those who've done DIY blacking - Im booked into dry dock in a couple of weeks for 7 days... first 3 involve blacking... latter 4 painting.
Blacking wise, will 20l litres of bitumen based stuff be enough to get 3 coats on from rubbing strip downwards?
Paint wise, I've a memory 2 coats of both colours took 10 litres of each with a bit left for touching up (I've also bought a couple of 1 litre cans of each colour for future use)
TAPE wise for my white lines, (not coke) - frog tape good enough ? - I can't remember what I used last time but it DID rip off a bt of the recently painted white so this time I'm gonna get my white on first to give it a week or so to harden.
cheers
PS - photos to follow as I bash on.

On the frog tape, they do a yellow low tack one which is for recently painted surfaces.

We used Craftmaster's own low tack masking tape, ordered direct online (£4 per roll) it was recommended to us and was very good.
But I'm sure Frog tape yellow, which is designed for 'delicate surfaces' will be good too.

You don't say how long your boat is, but 20L will be more than enough (assuming you aren't doing the base plate, and may be enough if you are). Our 70 foot narrowboat usually takes 15L for 2.5 coats . I.E 2 full coats on the sides and once around the water line. But but but, should you trust the advice of someone who, admittedly, is Rusty?

3Ms fine lining tape if you want really crisp edges.

I used frog tape (the green one) when I was painting. It's good stuff (and quite often on offer in Aldi).

Well i've got 25 litres of the Thames Barrier Blacking off PDI paints - really decent place in Stoke and good value. Need a few dry days now to get sanded.... STICKERS are next on my list to find... I can't remember where I got them last time but they've lasted really well and if I weren't re-painting, they'd probably last another 5 years.

We used the Graphics Boat ... worked great for us.
We found it an easy to use site and our name and number for each side was less than £50 (and they're boaters).
But I guess that could be said of most providers.
