Yes there are some notable 'greenie sluts' on there, the whole greenie thing is a joke. Plus you can award them to yourself. A while back I noticed that every single one of Delta9's recent posts had 1 greenie, that gave me a belly laugh! Unfortunately he's now banned so it can't be proved. I agree completely with you Pete, and I often would have liked to be able to give a redie for very bad and sometimes even insulting postings mainly of a person that hasn't got a narrowboat, is still very young, but knows everything much better than anyone else (don't think I have to add the name).
There was a guy however who really deserved all the greenies he received for a pinned topic : A useful index of some common CanalWorld Boat Building and Equipment Topics
a very useful topic, that I would like to see here too.
Peter.

I only gave myself greenies a few times when I first realised it could be done. I guess my posts were just of a such a high quality I got greenied often... On another forum where I got banned and they would not delete me, once I realised I could still hit the like or dislike button much fun was had. I think, but am not sure that at one time CWDF were not keen on deleting banned accounts.

I think, but am not sure that at one time CWDF were not keen on deleting banned accounts. I think it was claimed that you "could not delete an account". Obviously you can but being a bit speculative perhaps there is something going on with the software provider (IP board in the case of cwdf) in the sense that you have to have a certain number of registered and active members for some particular deal or something? This would make it unattractive to actually delete active members unless you had a surplus. A stab in the dark as I know nothing about it at all.

I'm sure that it must be advantageous in some way to maximise User numbers. Not that I care, CWDF holds a special place in my heart.

Not that I care, CWDF holds a special place in my heart. Just out of curiousity I checked for a few weeks almost everyday the birthdays of members, by clicking on "all members" as on the standard listing there will be about 6.
Several times there were 10 to 13 birthdays of members that hadn't posted or signed on for years, and a few times their last connection was on the day they'd became members.
If there would be a counting of members that regulary connect to the forum (even without posting) you would get a much more realistic idea of the real number of members.

Thanks for the compliment, I was thinking of starting one the weekend just gone, but got distracted with a bunfight on mooringless-and-not-very-cc liveaboard families. One nice think about TB is that it looks like posts can be edited indefinitely, so an index can easily be added to over time. Plus now there's enough techy material to start one, so I'll try to get on the case before long...

I'm not banned but having posted advice gleaned over 16 or so years of load carrying& hotel boating to be called stupid/silly by some women with a very large self opinion but minute actual knowledge of canals more so the narrow ones i guessed with that kind of crap being spouted & the general trend of the less you know but the more crap you spout the better you are thought of time to exit me thinks My personal experience of the internet in general is that the more people you have on your friends list the more you can spout total rubbish but still be perceived as a 'clever person'. A weird thing the internet. So far this place seems to be reasonably immune to such stupidity.

I actually find it much more interesting to hear opinions I don't agree with, rather than having opposing views constantly stifled.
I am often swayed by arguments, and find I have to adjust my views. I consider this a positive thing, as I am reassessing my position, rather than just supporting a previous stance.
None of us know everything. Consequently, when presented with something new, it forces one to think and review one's position. I have picked up gems of wisdom from people who's overall opinions I find odious.
As Voltaire may not have said, "I strongly disaprove of what you say, but would defend to the death your right to say it."

That's not an argument, that's a contradiction.
I paid for the ten minute argument.
