Bit daft holding the World Cup in Qatar in the first place, their views on things like equality for women, homosexuality, alcohol etc are quite well known. No amount of rainbow armbands are going to change thousands of years of ingrained religious beliefs. Part of the problem we in the West have is the notion that our idea of how societies should function is the only correct way and that everybody else just needs "enlightenment".

Do you think importing lots of foreign workers on about 2 quid an hour is the way to run a good society? Just asking...

Ironically enough the muzzies often seem to feel the same way but it appears opinions of exactly how the enlightenment should be achieved are somewhat variable.

No amount of rainbow armbands are going to change thousands of years of ingrained religious beliefs. Yet as soon as Poland joined the EU and every English high street became festooned with Polish food shops, Perla Mocca soon became a favourite staple for those on the hunt for cheap alcohol.

What does Perla Mocna have to do with religious beliefs?

It's an indicator as to how quickly things can change when there's an incentive.
Like getting a 'vaccine for Covid' if it means keeping your job.

It's like one of these puzzles you used to see in magazines- Change FOOTY to COVID by changing one letter at a time.

There was a Polish deli in the Precinct in Coventry. It was a regular stop in every shopping trip. I can still recall the aroma of exotic foods, most of which were a mystery to me. The sad thing was that it was so popular and successful they moved to a much larger place albeit not terribly far away. It lost all the ambience though. All years before Poland joined the EU.

Anyway, I have to correct Ross on three mistakes in the same short sentence.
Firstly, I do not buy Perla Mocna from the Polish shop, I buy it from the Paki shop. They are not the same thing and the overlap between the products on sale is minimal.
Secondly Perla Mocna did not "became a favourite staple for those on the hunt for cheap alcohol", in fact I've never known another British person to drink it, not least because at 7.6% ABV it contains considerably less alcohol than 9% beers such as Karpackie which is available in the same shop at the same price. Strong beers are generally considered to be those above 8% ABV, anything between 5 and 8% is a medium strength beer.
Thirdly, Perla Mocna has nothing whatsoever to do with football, Qatar or Covid.

But logic and reason don't figure in Ross' twisted perspective. Along with reality.

I thought Perla Mocna was a 9% pisshead juice thing. I stand corrected.

I thought Perla Mocna was a 9% pisshead juice thing. I stand corrected. Karpackie is the pisshead Polish beer of choice, at 9% ABV. Perla Mocna is stronger and less watery than Budweiser/ Carling but is not a particularly strong beer in the scheme of things and has an agreeable balance of ABV and flavour.
