Yet as soon as Poland joined the EU and every English high street became festooned with Polish food shops, Perla Mocca soon became a favourite staple for those on the hunt for cheap alcohol. There was a Polish deli in the Precinct in Coventry. It was a regular stop in every shopping trip. I can still recall the aroma of exotic foods, most of which were a mystery to me. The sad thing was that it was so popular and successful they moved to a much larger place albeit not terribly far away. It lost all the ambience though. All years before Poland joined the EU. I know. I, too, miss the olden days when everyone left their front doors unlocked as Britain was crime free back then, and the Italians used to cycle round on their bicycles wearing straw hats ringing their bells selling Cornettos. |
