Not the earliest sunset of the year though which in most of the UK took place on 13th December except in the far south where it occurred on the 12th, and in parts of Scotland where it was the 14th. Here in Brinklow sunset is already two minutes later than it was last week. I believe also that this year the Solstice occurs on the 22nd, at least that's when the Druids are holding their event at Stonehenge this year. calendarcustoms.com/articles/stonehenge-winter-solstice-ceremony/

One of them, famously, was William Roche, famous for playing Ken Barlow in Coronation Street. Unfortunately, the majesty and solemnity of their ancient ritual was somewhat marred by hundreds of stoned and tripping hippies shouting "All right Ken? How's Deirdre?"

Not the earliest sunset of the year Yes, looks like yesterday beat today by a minute. Sunset 20th December 1433. Sunset 21st December 1434. Sunset 22nd December 1434. 4hrs 17mins 30secs day length for 21st & 22nd December. Both are the shortest days of the year here. 4hrs 17mins 46secs day length for 20th.... so not the shortest day of the year. And I thought that's what the topic/thread title was about - "shortest day of the year".

The interesting bit is the solstice that is at 9.48 tonight I think. The standstill or turning point of the year.

I was there in 84, the last year. I was one of the hippies (never really saw myself as a hippie at any point) and i was most certainly tripping my tits off. Completely out of my gourd in fact. It wasn't really possible to hear what the druid peeps were saying above the volume Hawkwind were producing although it did add to the spectacle. My suspicion was that they were making it all up but it looked cool.

You can still get it although it's a bit more expensive than wot I paid for mine. www.amazon.co.uk/Hawkwind-Solstice-At-Stonehenge-DVD/dp/B000260QAQ

I expect the shortest days of the year are up at the North Pole right now where, if you blink, you'll miss it.
It's quite easy to get lost at the North Pole.

If you find a video of 'Airbus being flown into Ross' house' then that would be a good watch.

He was up on a charge of child molestation a while back. He was acquitted though.
