I would call it a shooter. Anyway I don't need to buy a gun. Yes a shooter is old school east end I suppose. I imagine it might get messy dispatching zombies with a boat hook. The mess is part of the fun. Other useful tool is the forged iron ditch spade. Nice bit of momentum behind it.

Nice bit of momentum behind it. Sounds like you’ve thought about this? Anyway who would have thought that having a wood burner would make you public enemy number one.

I'm waiting for a warmer day to put the tyres in there as people will have their windows open .

Still have some of the Lovely Lignite briquettes but I think the sellers will stop at the end of May.
Interesting to see what happens. I like a bit of proper coal now and then as well so hopefully someone will supply at least in small occasional quantities?

It is probably the hoarding. people will have container loads for when wood gets banned.

Just did a search for Columbian singles with a view to watching coal prices and it led me down a rather dodgy avenue.
Not that sort of single ! Coal singles !

'Afternoon, Only me... just thought I'd pop by and post up my routes for next year so anyone NOT wanting to get stuck behind a stoppage, can plan accordingly. I'm not looking forward to trips 2,3 and 4 (Tidal Trent) but after that, it'll be a nice jaunt. There's nothing to fear from the Trent, . . provided the standard C&RT rubbish passage planning/timing advice is ignored and replaced with something that avoids entry into the sidelocks at Stockwith and Keadby at the worst possible times - ie. late on the Ebb with next to no depth of water in the lock tails - or involves passing high risk locations such as Marton Rack, and others, at around local High Water. Post up the days you're going to be on the river below Cromwell, when the time comes, and I'll tell you when you should be getting underway so as to minimize any chances of grounding anywhere at or near local HW on a falling tide, . . and to give you the easiest possible conditions in which to go in at Stockwith or Keadby.

It's not great for a new business to tell the whole world your customers are smelly soap-dodgers.

It's not great for a new business to tell the whole world your customers are smelly soap-dodgers. lol - I aint "new" any more... and I 'm working it MY way... the 'business' exists solely to make MY LIFE better and if I can give folks the chance to come along and do something they'd otherwise not be able to do at the same time, it's a bonus. I've amended my booking terms with the following statement too: we reserve the right to terminate a passenger's cruise should that person in the opinion of the master of the vessel have placed the boat, equipment or passengers in danger of damage or injury by ignoring the advice or restrictions imposed in order to protect against such damage or injury to persons or property whilst travelling with us. PLEASE don't be unrealistic about your mobility. It's one thing to be a bit unsteady and need the occasional 'hoik' (I love that word) but if you (or your travelling partner ) is deemed by the Capt. as unable to exit the boat quickly in the event of an emergency, on arrival the trip will be cancelled, you will be asked to leave and have no money refunded. This statement has been added for 2023 (and beyond) after several unfortunate experiences last year. Narrowboat Ellis is a boating holiday - NOT Respite Care!
IF they don't like it, then don't come - simples. Same goes for solo sups for everyone new - it's full occuancy charges now ... I am NOT a charity. I need to earn enough in the season (well around no notice mid summer closures) to get through winter without a job .... if I'm full of solo travellers I can't do that .. ergo, if I HAVE to have a job as well, I may as well do like mrstabby and work winter to have summer off an ditch punters altogether.

But you so isn't a Captain. Perhaps a Master.

Maybe one litmus test for prospective guests would be to ask themselves if they could go up and down some steps (about four) which do not have handrails and unassisted. This would approximate stepping on or off the boat from the front deck.
