I'm curious if LHA rates come into play in the payment for boats, though it will be a lot higher in that there London land than Rochdale, where a single person rate is currently £393 pcm, mind you that's over 4.5k pa, so even here would pay for a decent mooring and license.

It is the DWP not the LA who pay universal credit. Housing benefit no longer exists.
I'd rather be a scots laird

My niece is getting married to a Glasgae Scot in the autumn, I've suggested Kilts, trad combat style, be de rigeur for the male guests. That would be fun. Tested and proven by a group moon obvs. For the wedding album!

From .gov website:
Eligibility Housing Benefit can help you pay your rent if you’re unemployed, on a low income or claiming benefits. It’s being replaced by Universal Credit.
You can only make a new claim for Housing Benefit if either of the following apply:
you have reached State Pension age you’re in supported, sheltered or temporary housing
------
My vast mooring fee is being paid by the DWP. I'm looking forward to the job interviews.
You did WHAT? in your previous role?

Yes good luck to them finding you a job. Be careful though they force people to take shit jobs that they become trapped in.

It is an interesting psychological shift from being a twat to being a state supported twat. I think I am probably eligible as nobody would ever give me a job anyway. It is going to be a funny adventure going to all the interviews just to be told to fuck off. The trouble is the Dole Office make you apply for jobs anyway. You have to demonstrate to them that you have spent x number of hours job hunting. One ex-employer of mine gave up advertising for HGV drivers through the Job Centre because whenever he did he was inundated with applications from claimants who didn't even have an HGV licence.

Fool, performer, car mechanic, plumber, welder, teacher etc. But I don't need to worry about that any more, they pay me to do nowt but amuse myself. Only a few years to wait Grasshopper. You could collect shopping trolleys, in fact Marine Shopping Trolley Collection would match your skill set admirably.

That is where it all went right. Not spending the family money on houses to rent to other people.

That is where it all went right. Not spending the family money on houses to rent to other people. On the face of it, becoming a BTL landlord seems like a good idea but then you run the risk of inviting total scumbags into your life which can only ever end in tears before bedtime. I find that money is a concept best avoided. Of course I need to get some over the Winter to pay for things which cannot be avoided, boat licence and BSS, mooring fees, car and moped insurance, beer etc but other than that I swerve any involvement with it at all. I have very little money but I owe not a penny to anyone. The vast majority of people I have known who have committed suicide have done so over money-related issues.

Interesting you mention the suicide thing. Oddly enough all of my family members who killed themselves, and there are several, did so while financially rather comfortable. The tendency to hang oneself or stick a 12 bore in one's mouth (he was a tall boy) is on my mother's side which was a highborn family. I would have liked to find out how money could being happiness but sadly they spent the real money on some dodgy shit investments many yars ago.
