I recall a motor advertised for sale ages ago in all-original trim. Apart from the price it was a picture. But it had 'dustbin lids' over the hold-space, which I am sure were very practical when the boat was in service. However I suspect they were not that great to live with if you desired an alternative use. Also I briefly wondered what the resale value of them might be since there would be a somewhat limited market.

This was my boat for a short time. I put that cabin on and the covers. Also managed to bodge up a decent shape back cabin even though originally it was a day boat. All in plywood. Leaked. Did get from Rickmansworth to Stafford and the length of the Thames and yes it was a very commanding boat. Had a Petter PJ4 air cooled unit with a cool self changing gears gearbox with a car type clutch and a big propeller. Went like a rocket that boat did. Serious and long and fucking wicked. Lovely old boat but a terrible wreck and I had my clairvoyant glasses on so sold it. Not me in the pic this was immediately after I sold it.

The ironwork on these is sublime. I can't deal with maintenance of something like that and would not put a steel lid on it.
I think it is with Roger Fuller and with no topsides which is good. As it should be but what does one use something like that for ?
At least it didn't get cut.

A survivor. 1970s steel bum on it but done sympathetically no butchery. Originally wooden base and bottom strake.

To be honest I think crt have done George a favour taking the wooden sinker away. He can focus n his remaining boat. They should give him his solar panels and batteries back though.

It always ended up with a lot of water in it from above. Hull was sound as a pound
Given my propensity for non shit givvance I drew the conclusion that Bad Things would happen.
It really wanted a steel cabin but would have ruined the feel of the boat.

To be honest I think crt have done George a favour taking the wooden sinker away. He can focus n his remaining boat. They should give him his solar panels and batteries back though. I wonder if the bill for the removal of the driftwood can be applied against the value of the other boat and the non fly tipped generator. Or do they just write off these costs and put it down to experience.

It seems to be plausible that the amount of money spent dealing with this could have pensioned the bloke off and kept him in beer tor however long he happened to last.

What I can’t believe about this type of situation is that after how many years of dealing with similar circumstances.( crt/bw must have 20-30 years experience of this nonsense.) yet they haven’t come until with a less confrontational way of dealing with vulnerable people in vulnerable situations.

Let’s hope they come up with one soon, as they have an ageing boater population to deal with.

There are the byelaws but apparently they never use them. Part of me wonders if there was some sort of fuckup with the transfer order where the BW byelaws ended up not being enforceable by the CRT as they are not a public body.
Something odd going on.

I agree about something odd going on but I don’t think it’s not about being able to enforce the bylaws. It’s an issue that’s not going away. An ageing population is a societal problem so there’s no way crt can avoid their responsibilities to older boaters some of these people have paid liscences and moorings for 20-30 years. For crt to treat people in this way is disgusting and down right incompetent.

So whats the criteria for being a vulnerable person in a vulnerable position? Was George vulnerable 10 years ago when this standoff started? Freeloading, chancing twat is my opinion of him, not dissimilar to Dunkley Apparently his has a registered disability.
