I'm just wondering what the opinion is of putting copper shingles on old wooden boats?

I was just wondering if it's a good idea, I've seen a few done. I suppose if it's done when the wood is good condition it could be good.

In all seriousness Kris, it was the standard worm protection in Nelson's day The HMS Trincomalee (Leda class frigate built in 1812) was copper sheathed from new and she is still around

So if you got a wooden boat in good condition sheathed it in copper it would last much longer.

Yes, cider is a good mouth swill, by the way your work with GRP is very inspirational. But as I was thinking about old wooden boats Copper would be more suitable.

What i would...ha a pun, would....wood......sorry, bloody nora not even had a pint. What i would love is a fully varnished top deck, by eck that would take some looking after but i have seen a few and are amazing. Shingle would be smart, i would just give it a go, they can be removed easy..cant thye, so after a period you could see what is going on underneath?

One of my mates wooden boats, about 90 years old and a hull that looks very similar to a Bristol pilot. It has been sheathed in a glass fibre "west system" coating we believe about 25 or 30 years ago which seems to holding up very well
