Words like canal, forum, narrowboat could be added to the home page, but in a way that they are not normally seen, such as white text on a white background or in a special file that search engines can read. I think this is called Robot.txt. Surely someone here could advise the site owner on "search engine optimisation" ?
I have tried many variations of words in Google and it's quite frankly a bit shocking to see how many actually do lead to Thunderboat. We don't need to do Trumps and Clintons here by investing millions of Dollars and tweaking this & that - put in some decent work and it'll trundle along nicely by itself. It's staggering how many new members have turned up in this last month. I'm guessing the majority are from CWDF. I also feel that many from there have had a look at Thunderboat and decided it's not quite their cup of tea, and they are scared of reprisals from Wriggly & Co. Some have joined and made some lame comments and then buggered off, and some have joined and are beginning to settle down, in the knowledge that they can comment when and how they like and that they are welcome to come and go as they please. I have had a peek at Canalworld now and then but it seems like a straight-jacket type of environment, and still the same old subjects keep raising their head as there's obviously very little inclination to make new topics. The Virtual Pub is like a Wetherspoons that only serves Fosters. Interesting times. A good portion of CWDF members have decanted to Thunderboat, they certainly seem to be the more fun and broad-minded lot, some have feet in both sites (and nothing wrong with that), and what I'd term the 'drier' and more 'staid' folk have decided to just see it through with staying on CWDF. Time changes perspective and now we can see that Thunderboat has timely filled a void (or a pothole?!) and it may be so that the two sites carry on for some years in this mode, that for a laugh you can pop over here, and if you don't find what you're looking for you can cross over and pop back into CWDF where you also have friends. I do not think that Thunderboat can be seen as a jokey upstart any more, as very serious and sensible and intelligent people have joined this site and contributed handsomely to it.
Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm.
I hope that I never become famous and someone trawls my contributions on this site looking for the odd post which may be offensive.
