Are you related to MissMax of the other, now a lot less popular, forum ?
As the "thingy" is her favourite expression to make clear about which item she's talking.
Peter.
No the word 'thingy' describes everything that us women have no technical term for...I do like Max's posts and I understand her technical references using the descriptive word 'thingy'.....we don't have quite the same word choices that u men have but we can make ourselves understood...I think Absolutely. I knew you'd understand

The cost of the contract between Fountains and C&RT, I would suggest, is a very different issue to when and whether grass is cut.
I am aware of people who have had a bad experience with Fountains contractors (as described above and much worse) but I can only speak as I find. They have always ceased cutting when I have been nearby, walking, running or boating. They have always missed my mooring when asked to do so.
In my initial post, I was attempting to highlight the problems with grass cutting, as it always appears to me, half complain that it's being done, whilst the other half complain thst it isn't.
Last year I travelled through Woodseaves cutting, and was amazed how wide and open it was, as the banks had been heavily cut back.
Within three weeks I made a return trip, and had I not seen it myself, could have believed it had never been cut. I think that's the nature of the job.
Of course I agree with Kris that an infinitely better job was done when the work was not contracted out to people who really don't have an interest in the canals, but I fear those days are unlikely to return. The last time I spoke to the Montgomery lock keeper he was complaining he was not allowed to cut the grass anymore but that the contractors did a rubbish job.

Geoff whyatt was the last manager to negotiate "grass cutting" contracts with fountains. I was given details at the time, and was amazed by the amount of content involved, with length, width and rota for cuts. it was all about the grass (and fishermen). It's all probably on Google somewhere, I posted it all on different groups.

I would suggest any contract that can be sub-contracted again has too much money in it.

To me it's a secret language, if you're moored close to the "Enigma" machine, it may find more understandable words for novices in the language that you and Max use.
Peter.

Thank you I will have a go..Im sure i can find the fuel tap...do all lawn mowers have one?..Mine is a red one Well that narrows it down Hopefully it does! Often a sign like a fuel can and an arrow next to the lever for the tap. If it's a Brigs & Scrapiron type engine there is no fuel tap. More's the pitty.

I like mowing, it's therapeutic, plenty of time to collect your thoughts and turn something scruffy into a nice neat tidy sea of green.

I beg to differ..... hauling mower out from shed thats choc a bloc with gardening must have tools... hauling starter cable until arms ache and air blue with profanities...starting said mower..finding out that the idiots who lived here previously sank plastic half drainpipes just under surface of lawn to aid drainage...meaning that lawn can only be cut one way..horizontal stripes only..... having to stop to clear up fox/cat c..p ....... then finding said mower don't wanna restart... don't think therapeutic is quite the descriptive word I'd use........
