Should have started straight away, and NOT good to rev it up cold. By the way, in the Bukh DV20 both pistons go up and down at the same time: That's interesting. Some twins like the RN DM2 have a cantering horse sound as the pistons come up quickly one after the other giving a ee-ee-ff-ff-ee-ee-ff-ff when turned over with a starting handle. ee being injectors cracking and ff being exhaust opening. Apparently this was to reduce stresses on the crankshaft.

"You surely wanted to write that both pistons are going up and down at the same time, which is how it should be on the Bukh twin." Indeed I did, and now edited to correct that. Thanking ye No worries, but it does read better like this, you accepting what I wrote makes me believe that you're not closely related to Tony D's beloved private teacher, as she would have come up with an argument to prove that it's the cylinders that go up and down.
Peter.

I had a DM2 for ten years which took me around most of the UK canal system in the 90s. 55ft Nb. Nice engine but would have preferred a triple on balance.
I was able to hand start it on a good day (it was a 1980s one so not an old thing)

quite a healthy BMC in this one. Little noisy on the induction side of things, but other than that a good effort. We have an air filter assembly out of a Hyundai 1600 coupe in ours, it was exactly the right size and shape for the area it needed to go in. underwater exhaust means we are near stealth mode

I recorded the sound of our Bukh DV10 starting (on my phone) and use that as my alarm clock sound! First word of the day at 5am is usually F**K!

Here's the DV10, what we have: There isnt much wrong with that. You should have left it on the pallet, connected it to a pump and sent coloured water round in a constant circle all day long at a steam rally. You'd get to exchange 'vanning stories and hedgehog recipes with MJG
