you naughty traitor you! well I have to say that withithe current tone and quainducesity of debate on here, we won't be getting many new recruithere. Shame re. nick you slag off this forum and its members so often, I'm just really intrigued why you bother posting on here, if this is really what you think surely cwdf would be better suited to you. Perhaps more than many on here, Telemachus can be left to speak for himself. But much of what he says appears like a red rag to a bull to some on here, and induces a torrent of abuse. It's a real pity because it stifles any continued discussion, and becomes tit for tat (with Telemachus contributing handsomely). What is worse, we never get to see what everyone else thinks. I occasionally consider Telemachus's writing style to be lacking in compassion and empathy. Sometimes he, like the rest of us, is best left to 'dig his own hole' and demonstrate for himself his faults to the rest of us But I also believe he is a valued contributor and I would not wish to see him leave. Rog i wouldn't want Nick to leave, I just find his behaviour weird. He obviously enjoys arguing with people, judging by the way he tries to goad people with his posts. He then slags people off for having arguments, that he has started his share of. As I say weird, it's almost like an addicts behaviour. Giving in to temptation then feeling guilty, so blaming other people for his lapse. Oh well it takes alsorts.

Rog Yes I do struggle to have compassion and empathy for a few of the more obnoxious people on here. Perhaps that is a shortcoming, but I suspect it's just human nature. Of course if those people were less obnoxious it would be much easier. Behaviour breeds behaviour.

well I have to say that with the current tone and quality of debate on here, we won't be getting many new recruits from there. Shame really No - who wants 'em? They have had long enough to decide whether to join TB and join in. New members can come in from anywhere around the world. A bit of advertising is all that's needed. I'll see if I can find some corner shops in Carlisle today to stick some ads up in. I've had a look at the Virtual Pub now and then 'over there' and it's all dried up. Like the Black Bull turned into the Salvation Army tea-and-cake or Death café. 105 Canalworld members like this. for those not sure what Foxy is referring to:-

But when people's idea of arguing is to respond to any post with personal insults that don't address the point at all, well that is not arguing. Which is a shame because it would be nice to be able to discuss (argue, if you like) various points thus seeing things from various different people's viewpoints. addict? Yes possibly, I'm currently spending too long on here. Usually it's a displacement activity ie I should be getting on with some job I don't particularly want to do. Earlier this week it was replacing a front fork seal on the Hayabusa, but I've done that now. But I'm spending less time on CWDF these days, I was definitely addicted to that for quite a while.

From Wikipedia
Internet addiction disorder is not listed in the latest DSM manual (DSM-5, 2013),[20] which is commonly used by psychiatrists. Gambling disorder is the only behavioural (non-substance related) addiction included in DSM-5. However Internet gaming disorder is listed in Section III, Conditions for Further Study, as a disorder requiring further study.[20]
Jerald J. Block, M.D. has argued that Internet addiction should be included as a disorder in the DSM-5. However, Block observed that diagnosis was complicated because 86% of study subjects showing symptoms also exhibited other diagnosable mental health disorders.[8]

.....even when some of us behave like children! It's probably healthy to be a bit silly sometimes to take the pressure of being serious and sensible, like a fuse that doesn't actually blow but just let's the surplus out. I notice on Canalworld there are/have been many with 'mental issues', less so on TB. TB certainly has been more humorous than Canalworld - but then there are also lots of serious, informed and intelligent posts (mine mostly!). (snigger) Phil

you naughty traitor you! well I have to say that with the current tone and quality of debate on here, we won't be getting many new recruits from there. Shame really, a few people spoil it. I'm put in mind of Carlt reading this. He was a brilliant forum debater who researched his responses or responded based on his own actual knowledge. As a result he attracted a lot of personal abuse simply because some people couldn't construct a coherent and equally well reasoned response to any points he made. It's not really a surprise he didn't post for very long on here. I never subscribed to his political beliefs and never will but he portrayed them very articulateley and without insulting anyone. He was indeed a good debater but, no matter how long the debate went on, you could be sure that he would always want the last word/post. He must have had an encyclopaedic memory because he could pull up some post that a person had made from years and years ago and use it in the debate that was currently ongoing. Roger
