Or if you like risks get an angle grinder circular saw blade. Just discovered one of them in the bowels of one of my sheds. The shed I am having to clear and get rid of very useful stuff (one day)π₯π. Now all cleared and stacked in the front garden. Next job, rebuild the base frame, it's on stilts, empty the next shed and move it to where the cleared shed was, then move the 3m X 2.3m metal shed. So we can build the toilet extension on the side of the house. A few more tip runs to go too.

I'm making notes of the advice on here and will provide the son who should never attempt DIY, a do's n don'ts list...then hope he employs a professional. He makes my DIY disasters look perfect

Cutting floorboards - snap a jigsaw blade so it only goes to depth of floorboard, cut down the tongue or across the board without worry. Or I use a very cute 3"circular saw max cut depth 20mm cuts floorboards a treatπ A lump hammer and an electricians bolster does the job almost as quickly as an axe

Ear plugs and a multi tool certainly the easy option these days ππ€ͺπ» Cutting floorboards - snap a jigsaw blade so it only goes to depth of floorboard, cut down the tongue or across the board without worry. Get in the 21st century grandad - no snapping of blades needed with a multitool, nice sharp thin cut; added bonus is the blade can be used on something other than floorboards when you are done π

I posted psome pictures a bit ago (I think it was on the no sun in the sky thread) of the crane I had built to get the ballast into the forward cabin.
As I said when I built it, one of the main reasons was the safety reason ..... passing 45Kilo blocks of steel by hand down through a hatch worried me. With the crane built and a sunny day it was time to find out if it worked for it's design purpose.
To allow a vertical drop for the crane I had to cut 6" out of the steelwork to enlarge the opening (it really needed doing anyway) it did mean removing part of the deckhead cladding ... but still needs must,
anyway the opening was fine and the crane dropped the blocks neatly down
The blocks seem almost custom made to fit my frames. exactly 4 wide
and 2 high !!!
that's now 24 blocks, each about 45 Kilogrammes installed .............. and it is definitely beer 0'clock for a geriatric !!!
Provided I'm not too knackered tomorrow, I'll try and get another ton installed .......... but that is definitely enough for today

Got another 8 blocks in that section at the end. it starts to curve there so I am going to bolt a wooden panel in there and use the end as underfloor storage. The insulation and floor has been replaced on that and the floor lifted on the next section. and got the first 4 blocks in to check that the spacing is the same. There are 28 blocks left to load in and I have now prepared the flooring ...... but I ache too much to do that today ...... tomorrow is another day !!!
(also had to do a run with the trailer to collect another 250 litres of water) Now knackered, dinner in the oven and with luck will be able to stay awake to watch the new series of Vera on the tv

There are those that can and would help at the drop of a hat but to be honest I'm a pig headed, bloody minded, independent sort of chap and I would prefer to manage things for myself as long as I can

I can understand that but hopefully if there is something that's beyond solo you will ask a friend. My old friend in Scotland is 88 and still 'pig headed etc' ..I call him the GDOS...Grumpy Decrepit Old Scotsman(its a description he likes) and when he regales me with his latest independence achievement, I just accept. His life and one day I'll get back up there to sort out the errors of his ways that need sorting, some he can live with but there are issues that need re-tweaking.

Ballast installation complete ...... I'm Kerry Packered ............66 blocks of approx 44Kg each installed in the forward cabin bilge added to the approximate half ton of general scrap already there so I'll have about 3.5 ton
plus the 2.5 ton installed under the saloon floor on top of the original 10 ton of steel blocks. .... 16 ton
It's not really enough but it will have to do, there isn't much room to instal any more
Still got to weld in locking bars to stop it being able to move and vacuum the dust out but that's the hard bit done

What would the original payload have been, likely a bit more than 16tonnes + plus your general fittings of 2 or 3 tonnes perhaps.
