Sabcat said: "I know, it's mad as **** isn't it that race gets a mention about an issue that's nothing to do with race or immigration."
(rude word blanked as children may be reading this)
I've just gone through this thread to examine Iconoclast's posts and I don't see anything about 'other races'. Immigration, yes, as the inhabitants of the Calais 'Jungle' (and who concocted THAT name?) are intent on crossing the Channel illegally to get to Britain where - not because it's the land of milk and honey - but, apparently, because they have 'mates' in Britain and 'cos they speak English.
I generally can't find fault with Iconoclast's posts and I feel he contributes much to this forum. I wish I could write so eloquently.
Instead of just saying "You're a racist!", how about trying to work out the reasons why someone is a perceived racist? As for me - I probably AM a 'racist' but my judgement of foreigners and their cultures is based on what I have experienced myself, suspicions which have been backed up by evidence. Let's take the Japanese, for example: I've been to Japan, met many Japanese people. I liked Japan and I liked the people I met. But they do have their own ideas and ways and have been brought up in a strict social environment, and they really don't understand British jokes so I'd rather have a yarn with the white Liveaboard Git in The Navigation Inn rather than with Hidetoshi Takano as I know Hidetoshi will just nod and laugh out of politeness and not understand a word I'm saying - does that make me racist?

On one hand it is brainwashing by those who have control, on the other hand, it's our stupid fault for letting ourselves be brainwashed. Colour, culture, religious and political difference is a far less threat to us as than greed. How do we not realise that? Anyone worked it out yet?

I am curious as to know how Iconoclast noticed that someone logged off and on within minutes? I know the list of on-liners is at the bottom of the home page, but I don't scroll down there every minute and make a note of who is still there and who has vanished.

I am definitely 'racist' to those I regard as 'queue jumpers' - those who get council housing before those who have waited a long time. 'Racism' is probably based on a concept of 'fairness' rather than 'being foreign'.
There is also the biological and genetic view of Earth's various 'races'. This certainly hasn't been delved into either on Canalworld not on Thunderboat. I feel this is because few here know much about Biology or Genetics. This is something I would be interested in. We will always look at people different to 'us' with suspicion - it's a natural defence mechanism! Are they friendly? Do they want to kill and eat us? Are 'Northerners' 'racist' to 'Southerners' in Britain? Are the 'Rich' 'racist' to the 'Poor'? Knock on one of those Thames mansions and shout the question at the owners, as you're running down the garden path pursued by their dobermans!!

Bullshit. If that was correct then why say... This video of the Paris riot was posted on YouTube 6 hours ago. There seems to be a total media blackout in the UK about it.
I have provided two links to UK media outlets including the BBC, so it is patently incorrect no matter how you dress it up. (Then the rather pathetic linking it to CWM's work in Calais was the icing on the cake of course.) The BBC follow the social media when they have to... Indeed, so what though? I don't see the relevance to anything I have posted so I have no idea why you quoted me.

I know the list of on-liners is at the bottom of the home page, but I don't scroll down there every minute and make a note of who is still there and who has vanished. Especially as 'users online' is not accurate nor real time. It displays any user that has been active within the last 15 minutes. It is not possible to see a user log on and log off again a few minutes later. The minimum length of time a name is shown for is 15 minutes...

It wasn't that long ago that nationalism and patriotism were considered virtues. The current situation where national borders are quickly becoming meaningless benefits only one class of people, and that is the ruling class, the 1%.
There were good reasons for establishing national borders oh so long ago. Those reasons have not disappeared, regardless of how much the ruling class would like to make us believe otherwise.

My "half right" comment was directed at Sabcat who has already tangled with the OP and said words to the effect that "when he was half right he was still wrong" For me personally if you are asking? I would say Cotswoldsman and his actions have no connection with nor place in the thread whatsoever. I think the media initially was slow to pick up the French Industrial Action though accept it has received some coverage now.As regards the refugees at calais and elsewhere I believe we are subject to News Management. The use of Tear Gas on Refugees in the Jungle has in my opinion received little publicity.

I'm Southern Star and so is my wife....

The thing is I think we all rather liked Cotswoldsman. He took it all on the chin with good humour and ne'er a vicious insult, so I think we were all prepared to listen to his views. Even though people are sometimes vastly different, it's what makes the world go round. I'm not sure at all if people's opinions and perceptions are ever changed in conversations. They may say 'Yes, I see your point' but they invariably go back to their position 1. A lot depends on where we were born, our parents and upbringing, our schools and school mates, our travel and work experiences. Have I changed during 55 years? I still hold my basic beliefs and assumptions, which are probably hardwired into my brain (if I have one, mjg suggests I haven't one!) (my head hasn't been scanned yet, so he might indeed be correct). However, my experiences have taught me, such as PaulG2 says, that appearances can be deceptive - I too have met many 'hard-looking types' with tattoos and rings through every orifice yet they have been perfectly mannered and helpful. When I talk about genetics and 'racism' I would like to suggest that natural evolution was not prepared for the invention of the jet engine and genes to be circulated around this globe at the speed of 600 miles per hour. The key to the future of the human species lies in genetic control, and those who own the genetic laboratories are the 'rich white Europeans'. As they are heavily in debt to the Saudi Arabians because of their addiction to gasoline, perhaps it's actually the Arabs who will dictate the course of humans? I listen and read other views and have adjusted my opinions accordingly depending on where I see the truth. It's not so easy doing that when you spend too much time writing and talking...but it happens sometimes. Control...hmm...yes well there is going with that or going with the flow. Even then, choosing which flow to run with is tricky.
