£2,000 per year to run a poxy little forum? I think he took a wrong turn somewhere and rather than beg for more money he might consider being realistic.

I do not have jenlyn's eloquence, but I agree with him in so far as your description of patronizing goes. I accept it may not be Athy's intention to patronize, and that after all, it is only his writings we are commenting on. But in reading some of his comments, not necessarily directed toward myself, he is patronizing. If I were to go on now and explain the meaning of the word, and provide synonyms (to look down on, to treat with disdain, to treat with contempt, treat as an inferior etc) you could correctly accuse me of being patronizing whilst declining to be patronized or indeed, your personal hobby horse, being offended. Luckily I have avoided that pitfall Rog I look on you with disdain for your spelling of "patronising". Is that patronizing?

It just demonstrates how quickly we have become accustomed to American spellings, encouraged by our spell checkers. Both spellings are now, apparently acceptable. I also disagree with Mr Telemachus's hypothesis re being patronized. It is an act. One may choose not to be insulted, annoyed, offended or in any way concerned, but the act is complete notwithstanding. Rog

Rog Nick has a point, it's just a different general point that is if I call him a twat, it has no effect unless he suspects he is in fact a twat. In that case it's just a fact. The fact is that Athy is a patronising self agrandising (the schoolmaster bit) pretend (he manages to be a mod on a forum) fuddy duddy (how does one work email, I send letters what what dear boy), who latches onto every new single female boater/poster like a limpet. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

It's like the early days of Microsoft and message boards really. They did the job from day one, then some dick decided they could milk it and re-invent it to make lots of money.

To advertise on here costs a bomb, so much per click and it's a lot. Target the advertising to a suitable forum(s) and it's even more. And yet the only ads I see on here and another proboard forum I use are for the forum host software?

With this host, anyone can pay to prevent the ads. I wanted to pay by PayPal but apparently the hosts fell out with PayPal a long time ago. Someone is coughing up though....

It's a bit strange that Dan the ban goes out of his way to not publish the accounts. Could lead to questions being asked, which in all fairness would be justified.
