There are two reasons why I think our tax system needs a good shake up. 1. The system is very complex which makes it difficult for anyone to really work out how much they pay in overall tax, therefore it makes it easy for people to concentrate on headlines rather what is really happening. 2. In 2014/15 the percentage of all taxes measured against overall income was 37.8% for people in the lowest 5th income bracket and 34.8% for people in the richest income bracket (note the richest income bracket starts at just over ยฃ100k). See here for more detail www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/the-graph-that-shows-how-the-poor-are-paying-more-than-the-rich-in-tax-10353982.html

Then when you spend, 20% vat and a list of heavily taxed staples - fuel, booze, fags, cars...
Our government taxes the arse out of all of us then throws the money around like confetti. Getting poor value for money almost seems like the aim. Some people must be getting very rich at our expense.

The figures I quoted do include the indirect taxes such as VAT etc. The figures on the % of disposable income (in my opinion this is where tax really starts to hurt) make very depressing reading - this is solely down to the indirect taxes.

The government need to spend xxx amount so they need to raise xxx amount. I'm not sure the raising bit it a problem it's how and where they spend that xxx. People are blond to the fact that they say pay too much tax on fuel and we get protests, if the government say ok we will cut it in half. They still need to raise that money somewhere so you pay it somewhere else. Like insurance tax goes up. No one knows how much it is anyway. The problem is how much they raise and how they spend it.

I have no problems with some f my taxes helping people abroad, not to say that some of it doesn't get to the beneficiaries, that needs addressing. Better that better that than a big trident cock pissing it up the wall. Bring on a maximum living wage and universal benefit.

The Finn's have done it www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/oct/31/finland-universal-basic-incomeMind you that could well encourage greedy British migrants flooding over there in hordes. Mind you that could well encourage greedy British migrants flooding over there in hordes. Driving all the buses. ย Greedy?ย I came here because my wife was homesick for Finland after living in England for 8 years.ย Wages for bus drivers here are about the same as in the UK. ย I know of two English drivers in Helsinki (one from Liverpool, one from Norfolk) and one here 'up North'. I have not heard of any others, and I know of no other Brits living out this way, none at all. ย I don't know how kids learn English in schools here - I have never been asked to help out and I wonder how those English teachers have learned English. Kids on my bus don't seem to know any English, but the little ones (8-10 years old?) sometimes ask what is this or that in English. I have said to them they should ask their parents to take them on holiday to Britain, but Finns always choose Teneriffe or Bangkok because Finnair flies there and it's warm and you get a lot to eat at the buffet tables. ย I find Finns to be lacking in imagination. calm down dear!๐๐๐ Just a gentle prod! I find it puzzling when English migrants Witter on about migrants over here, seen it with people who live in Andalusia near my brother. I'll bet you contribute tax etc but the guys in Spain live on the black side, no tax etc, though getting what benefits they can from Spain, just like they accuse migrants here of doing. What's the craic with universal income then.

There isn't any 'Universal Income' here - all I've seen is that flash-in-the-pan when a few people got their year's social money all in one lump, or some sum, and were told to use that and not to claim unemployment/social benefits - but what happens when they've frittered it away and go to the Social Aunties penniless? I bet they're still entitled to get handouts. And it's about time the local lazy cops got out of the restaurant and started fining all those vehicles that have been running on one headlight for months. (edited, as I am making an effort this year to improve myselfย ย ย ย ย ) Well, you are getting there, slowly๐
