The Toyota dealer at Stratford tried to con us 2 years ago. We drove away. The Toyota dealer in Colne, Lancashire, pinpointed the minor problem and fixed it for a reasonable sum. Well done Toyota people in Colne! Boo to the Toyota con-merchants in Stratford-upon-Avon. Did they have a sign in the window saying "William Shakespeare had his Toyota MOT'd here" ?

I spent 48 hours in the basin and I enjoyed it, but by the end I was keen to get away to somewhere more rural, quieter so I pushed off, although 16 locks single-handing on the hottest day of the year probably wasn't one of my more sensible ideas.

No, the sign said "We even conned Bill Shakespeare".

21 locks on the Hatton flight, same as Wigan.
But they're so much easier to operate.
Mind you, single handed they're still quite an obstacle.

Rog I think I did 12 or 13 of them single-handed, and then a crewed boat caught up with me so we went through together which was a lot easier. I haven't done the Wigan flight but I do find the locks at Hatton quite hard to operate. I've mentioned before my dislike of hydraulic mechanisms. I've got several more wide locks to do over the next few days, Bascote, Stockton etc, then I am going to turn left at Braunston and head back to my mooring for a few days for several reasons before deciding what to do next. Plan A is to go to London although I also want to do the Caldon Canal which I didn't do last year due to a last minute change of plan which took me to the River Weaver instead, so I might do that this year. Or I might do something else entirely. The good news is that the money I saved over the Winter is currently holding out far better than I had planned, so I have no need to rush back to work, although I have been offered a few weeks work at the Isle of Wight Festival in June operating a 20' generator (in reality this means just taking it there on an articulated lorry, and turning it on and off once a day) which I might be tempted by just to rekindle my mis-spent youth as I'd be able to spend the rest of the time watching the bands and getting off my tits on LSD. Decisions, decisions.

I just been offered a job at reading festival. the co op are putting up a marquee and running a shop on site. only 220 lines but should sell a lot of volume. can't wait as I've never been to a festival will be on the night shift so can down the afternoon and evenings watching the festival. won't be able to get of my tits though.

Ham Baker paddle gear is not hydraulic! Well, whatever it is, it's a PITA. It is neither hydraulic nor made of bread.

Just be careful around Bascote staircase. That's where I met the 'loons' who didn't know what they were doing, so helped them through. We know how that story ended Rog
