Donald Trump is a circus showman who'll have a heart attack soon - just look at his red face. He's orange isn't he? Trump is a loud-mouth and it's easy at the moment for him to say he would do this, or that, knowing it get's him popular support. But he doesn't have an ideological movement behind him or even a political party; he's not a politician. If he were to get elected he would sit in the Oval Office and a succession of civil servants, diplomats and military men would point out to him why he can't do this, or that and his presidency would become a shambles.

I'm sure that the Presidency is run by the bureaucrats, and has been for some time. When the president can be over-ruled by congress/senate then the position is just a figurehead. At least they get libraries named after them when they lose

He is definitely a loudmouth, the question is will the Republican Party endorse him?and if so what then? Will Big Business decide what American Policy should be because from what he has said so far regarding Saudi and Europe I fear an isolationist policy.

can't help thinking there might be some odd parallels with the past.......American isolationism re-enforced the appeasement movement in the UK and helped contribute to the rise of totalitarianism all over Europe

I wish the News on TV and in the newspapers would be much more comprehensive so that many more countries would be included. What's happened today/this week in Vietnam, Angola, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Luxembourg? Perhaps a 'News' section could be made for Thunderboat - and a subsection of this for countries so that we can keep tabs on them. How about a 'Towpath crime' section? Or would burglaries and The Manchester Pusher fit into 'General Boating'?

I can add more sections if there is demand. I think it's probably best if we stick with what we have for now as a lot of empty sections does not seem very inviting to new members and I would rather have just a few sections with regular posts. I will try to work on some promotion to get new members. I have been unable to try Google adwords yet as my internet connection was extremely slow last night and I couldn't get the site to work

The bookies have Hilary Clinton and the democrats as favourites. Bookies seldom lose. Cruz would make a good "yes man", and it looks as though he is back on course (although it seems from dastardly work behind the scenes).

They did on the last GE here in the UK They did on corbyn as well. Like many of us, they relied on the polls, which were totally out of touch (or misled). I did state they seldom lose.

You know maybe the parallels with Trump and Corbyn are the only singular message that is indisputable from Politics today and thats the peoples hunger for change and it doesn't matter who promises it.You get the impression you could teach the JACK RUSSELL to talk and he would attract votes as long as he promised change.

That's probably true but there again when change takes place there's at least equal resistance. Any changes to attempt to reduce the crippling defecit are resisted. Even the House of Lords can get involved. A couple of westerners swim in front of a boat due to return a handful of migrants from war torn Pakistan. Everything is resisted

that resistance is often what has saved the ass of democracies
by that, by the way. I meant it's not a bad thing !

You can still have democracy and what is democracy anyway?I always see this drive for democracy especially in countries like Libya and Afghanistan where there is no tradition of it in effect means only one thing and thats exploitation of both natural resources and then the people.Perhaps thats why the people resist it.

Why I support democracy....Hmmmmmm!
1/ I believe it can (when working at it's best) be the best system to improve the condition of living for the majority of the population without causing oppression of minorities.
2/ That it is a flexible enough system to cope with most unexpected pressures without collapsing
3/ That it's flexibility allows enterprise and innovation to succeed
4/ that it suits bloody minded people like myself that don't like being labelled and stuck in the round hole
5/ that it's inertia (or as CDS puts it "the resistance") prevents it charging too far down an extremist path before swaying back the opposite way
