"The RNLI seem to have something if a death wish. Like most charities that become too big, they have lost sight of their roots. Dogs Trust, the National Trust, the Cats Protection League, and the RSPCA - to name a few - have brought on board 'management' busybodies who aren't in most cases fit to shine the shoes of the unpaid volunteers who actually provide the service. You can just see the whining, pitiful Regional Manager here loving his power. Put him to sea in a Force 10 gale and you'd wipe the smirk off his face. I will no longer include the RNLI in my will." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5700911/Lifeboat-skipper-MBE-sacked-ONE-error-34-years-Royal-National-Lifeboat-Institution.html Perhaps it's time to take a look at the RNLI 'management team'...

They missed canal and rive trust off that list.

"This is the problem with many charities and companies in the UK. They have been invaded by the university educated, overpaid, senior management merry-go-round. These people leave university with their head full of how they can improve everything without any experience of the real world and how the organisations work. They go from one company or charity to the next demanding more and more money and stuffing their CV's and online portfolios with more and more names and taking credit for everyone else's working and sweeping their mistakes under the carpet. The amazing thing is it is like a club it doesn't matter what mess you make one of the "corporate chums" will welcome them into their next overpaid role. These people are bleeding good organisations to death and killing the morale of those who actually do the real job. Until we stop the charities behaving like the banking industry and hiring these people this situation will just get worse." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5719757/Britains-heroic-lifeboat-volunteers-drowning-sea-political-correctness.html

I was at Caister last weekend helping take some adults with learning difficulties on holiday. We visited the lifeboat station which is one of only two or three in the UK that is not part of the RNLI. The guide told me that so many visitors are now asking if they sell 'special RNLI mugs' they are going to get some made up.
I was told that one of the reasons for staying independent was that the volunteers stayed in control ...

It's incredible that "Inclusion and diversity manager" has done so much harm to the RNLI it's untrue.
Over the years I have put a lot of money in the pot for them (started when I was in Merchant, there was always a pot, when paying off a ship, for the RNLI and I don't remember anyone stinting their contribution) It's been one of the only two charities I have contributed to in any great way. I was initially tempted to stop contributing but that would be very wrong, however stupid their top brass has become. I think in the future, though, instead of just putting my hand in my pocket I will make sure that it is marked for a particular station
