Don't crack on too much......it's a very short canal. Rog I will push on tomorrow as I want to get some photos of steam trains and boat in quaint juxtaposition and trains only run on Saturdays, Sundays, and next week on the Monday so I will scout out a few suitable locations and hopefully get pics on both directions. Then I'll do the Leek branch, as it would be rude not to. I'll probably be on the Caldon for a week. Don't know what to do then. Met a lady who was coming off the Caldon at the staircase lock who said "Never again". When asked why she said there was hardly anywhere to moor. Perhaps she doesn't carry mooring pins, and although they are my least favourite method of securing the boat I can tolerate them on an attended boat on a lightly used canal. I did notice that in a few places mooring rings had fairly recently been installed, including loads just before the lift bridge (didn't fancy mooring there though). Forgot to give feedback about the Henderson's Relish which I have been using liberally in all sorts of things, I really like it (I love tamarind anyway), thank you, and I will certainly try to locate some more when this bottle is exhausted, although I can't recall ever having seen it on sale before, I think it is distributed within a fairly small radius in areas where folk wear flat caps, and keep pigeons, whippets and coal in't bath.

It's a Gentleman's Relish for those of us with good taste, quality and discernment.
Morrisons Supermarkets often stock it, and we noticed the farm shop at Great Haywood sells it.
Glad you like it.

We prefer to think of it as a well kept secret. www.hendersonsrelish.comRog

as we obviously have among us some superior epicureans may I suggest to you another chutney, a delight although sourced from South African rather than Yorkshire purchasable (although one sometimes has to take a sjambok to the store manager to encourage them) from all the big brand supermarkets. mrsballs.com/our-story/ please note, personal recommendation is for the "original recipe"

I think that through spending too much time in Poland in the 1990s, my favourite seasoning has to be Maggi sauce, which is poured onto chips in Poland in much the same way as we use salt n' vinegar in the UK. A bit like a marriage between soy sauce and Marmite is the only way I can describe it, but it has the most fantastic unami taste.

Well, I think this is an absolutely lovely canal, probably one of the most beautiful I have ever been on. I'm at Cheddleton now, will just do very short moves over the next couple of days.
