Forgotten to say, have a good time there gazza, hope the weather forecast isn't as bad there than that it's here for the next week, starting this late afternoon with rain showers and possible thunder storms.
Peter.

EA D- our river is in a bit of a state. CART F (Fucked) or U (Ultra Fucked) MLC B- weed free thanks to these. Overhanging trees well chopped back from last year - these buggers would swipe your beer over. bottom is too near the top in places and getting worse on the approach to Salters Lode - a years old problem though. Sat waiting to find out if we can get across the tideway this tea time.

Some nice pictures, Gazza, and the boat looks great. Wouldn't Hugh Easton be proud if he was still with us that so many of his 55-year-old design Elysians are still going strong and giving so much pleasure to families?
Pleased to hear that the Middle Level is relatively weed and vegetation free. Don't be quite so hopeful if you venture onto the Old West or above Godmanchester, but I'm sure you will enjoy your time on the Great Ouse. I'll look out for you.

The old girl does us well, I have said it before but she's definitely a death us do part job! I still rate meeting Hugh as one of the highlights of my boating exploits to date! It's a couple of years since we went up the Old West, half an idea we will be up there end of July, I'll let you know if we are. The bulk of the summer will be bobbing about around the Ely Ouse and it's tributaries.

Fuck me!
River Advice for Boaters, STRONG STREAM ADVICE has been Issued: Boating Advice for River Nene. Floodline 0345 9881188, quickdial 032112.
It's been dry as a bone for a few weeks, the weather can't have been that bad since Friday surely?!
That will cock up a few people's bank holiday weekends!

What is the GPS compass for - incase you go of course? Handy bit of kit. Current speed Max speed. Moving average. Trip total. Mark your waypoints and you get ETA to next destination. Altitude - or lack thereof on the Levels! So far we are:- Trip = 57.6 miles Max speed 7.1mph Moving time 12 hours 20 mins Moving average 4.7mph Stopped time 7 hours 54 minutes Overall average 2.9mph Elevation 3' Surely the elevation of 3' is less than the height of the GPS from the waterline so in effect you are below sea level Phil

I've never ventured down to Holme Fen the lowest point in Fenland. It was a good rise up through Salters to lock through. Had to wait for it to fall a fair but so it didn't come over the gates into Well Creek.

Well, not too much hassle. We arrived at Littleport Sunday afternoon. A quick hotwire of the Freeman after the ignition switch gave up and we were moving again. Arrived at Littleport, caught the train to Ely to grab some food for the evening - good call, it was rammed so mooring would have been hard. This has appeared in the tree by the Cutter on Annesdale, must mean something to someone and give them pleasure I guess. Gary has a brute of an old work boat. Behind which there is a mud hopper. See here for a video about Littleport and the monster working. Tidy up and sort out after a decent breakfast then homeward bound. Nipped in to Titchmarsh to fetch my 15kg butane cylinder to find the river is indeed on flood and hear of tales about flash flooding in Northampton with Far Cotton underwater again - we have had almost wall to wall sunshine bar for a quick shower early Sunday morning. An inspired choice to sod off the Nene when we did!

Forgot about this. A 300 bhp Bayliner on a <3' ditch. Still, air draft doesn't look like an issue! We clouted the bottom 4 times along Well Creek and almost came to a stop on the approach to Salters - I'm glad for a well designed boat that will hit the bottom without damaging the prop and rudder. A powerful outdrive equipped boat is a less than good idea up there.... Rumour has it it will be up for sale soon!

I stayed at Littleport for a couple of months in 2016 when I had to return to hospital for a short while ...... nice little moorings and Gary was very helpful .... nice chap.
