Does anyone like buses? I have a bit of a soft spot for them. This is the one I used to catch to school every day in the early 1970's, the 228 service which ran between Eltham Well Hall (scene of a notorious train accident in 1972) and Chislehurst. It's an AEC Regent Mk3.

I'll like buses when they eventually give me a bloody bus pass. Keeps advancing away from me. I'm 62 now - does anyone here know when I can expect to get mine? 70 or so?

Are you a bit of a bus spotter, Stabs? All I can remember of those in your photo was that there seemed to be no driver upstairs. I was a slow learner. I later discovered that many of them had Gardner engines. I guess that makes me a spotter too!

My Dad worked for the old City Bus company Originally in the East London depot at Bow and then from about 1942 in Brentwood, in the workshops (body repairs) All told he worked for them for over 30 years including changes into Westcliff on Sea bus company and finally Eastern National.
When I was small, I used to go to the depot, elfinsaftee wasn't ridiculous then. ......... my favourite coach was the duple they used on the X! express route from London to Southend. It was a Leyland Gnu with tandem steering, great slab sided thing that (for those days) used to go like a bat out of Hell)

was just trying to find a picture on t'internet and found this ....... www.sct61.org.uk/csg6I think the reason I loved it as a kid, was because it just looked so damned different from all the other coaches eta another little snippet ..... it was uneconomic as a coach so they converted it into a massive breakdown vehicle based with a big crew cab, based at Brentwood originally ( I believe my old man was involved with the body work changes)

I think like myself, you'll have to wait until 66. Unless they move it back again......or even do away with them. The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off as an economy measure Rog

I hate all modes of public transport... crammed into a small space with people talking loudly and belching... oh hang on, am I getting confused with narrowboats now? ;-)

It's an AEC Regent Mk3. I had a choice of two buses, the 171 or the 12 both from the Elephant & Castle to Peckham. Come 3.30pm the buggers used to put their foot down to get past the school before the hoards got aboard. I like old buses and coaches.
