I carry clippers and will happily cut a mooring space. But I can do little about the depth issue. It's becoming difficult not to see this as a deliberate policy on behalf of C&RT, however viewing their management style in other areas, it's impossible to rule out simple incompetence. Rog Yes I’d go for the incompetence version. What would be the motive or gain for the other explanation? If you say “spite” then I call you a conspiracy theorist. I accept that CRT are as inefficient as any other management-heavy organisation but even the most efficient boaters' co-operative would struggle with the amount of maintenance required to keep a 200 year old system working. There is a reason why virtually everybody who works on a preserved railway is a volunteer. I did read once that licence fees only contribute £13 to every £100 required to keep the canals operating. Perhaps we should volunteer to pay more realistic licence fees?

Some of us pay each month in addition to licence fees and mooring fees.
The point is, if you're going to spend the money on relaunches, fleets of vehicles, and other nonsense, it doesn't matter how much money they have.
Where the money is spent is entirely decided by management.

Maybe you should look up how much is actually spent on maintenance and how much revenue boat liscences raise and how much income comes from the property portfolio. With out the top heavy managment structure the waterways are capable of being self sufficient. The argument you put forward, is one perpetrated by cart its self.

I'll reiterate cart are not a poor organisation. If they stopped squandering the money they have, then there would be plenty of money for maintenance.
