Boat damageNotice updates: 10/07/2018 @ 16:54 Our teams have completed an investigation at lock 62 and we will be commencing repairs to the lock gate tomorrow, Wednesday 11th July.
Unfortunately, similar boat impact damage has been caused at Lock 67. We will be bringing in an additional team to deal with the repairs to the damaged gate at lock 67 and they will be starting work on Thursday 12th July.
We will be able to provide a further update on progress at both locks on Thursday 12th July.
Description: Due to damage to the lock gate at Lock 62 which has caused excessive leakage, our engineers have attended site today to review the damage.
Following on from the investigation, the gate will require repairing before it can be put back into operation.
We understand that this closure may disrupt your schedule. We are taking every step to fix the problem as soon as possible and we will keep you updated of our progress

One of the locks near Mile End on the Regents section of the Grand Union has a completely fucked bottom cill. Letting a lot of water past it. Bit wot gates close against. CRT claim boater damage but I reckon its bullshit. A boat that deep would not have got there without damaging other locks first.
Its quite an interesting strategy to claim boaters are damaging locks rather than admitting maintenance failures.

Course it was a boater ....
wouldn't have been a bike would it?
.... AND they get new towpaths for free - Ting! Ting! - as he ran over my hose, alongside the closed sani station as I was struggling to close a gate on just 4 inches of water in Brum just before they shut yet another stretch of canal.....
Thought the purchase of my licence was supposed to give me "free" access to the waterways?

Cyclists do need sorting out . if you lay the hose at an angle it could helps slow them down maybe as an angled obstruction can cause problems for bike wheels. Hopefully.
But cyclists damaging locks is a bit far fetched. I did have an idiot once coming off a bike as I was closing the lock because he was going too fast did not judge the pedestrian and the lock gate balance beam movement and almost ended up on my deck head !

I've taken photos of loads of these T&M locks where the gate or the lock walls are leaking. Couldn't get to take a photo at 62, as I was struggling to get the boat into the empty lock against the weight of leakage. Pity as it was impressive. Lots of work needed or there'll be other stoppages I'm sure. Rog What have you done to lock 67 now, Rog?!?!?!
Hope you have plenty of photographic evidence this time as - once again they know - it was a boat what done it and we know where you are.....!
Met x
eta - perhaps we could blame Pearley?
Plenty of boats after me.

Its a shame dogless didn't take a picture and send it to stumpy. It would have ironed out any confusion if he had done this.
