Taken from Facebook. No idea if it is true or not but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. And it made me laugh.

Heard that story at the Black Prince yard at Stoke when we were hiring about 20 years ago.
They swore it was true then.
Doesn't really matter, it made me laugh then, and again when I read your post.

I'd like to reply with 'what is wrong with that' but fear my cover is blown.

Well spotted. I thought it was an alert put out by other boaters.watch out for speeding naughtycal. There is a bit of a dig in there about thrashing across Braydon several times. All those miles of beautiful waterway and 25+ knots repeatedly across the featureless expanse of Braydon Water is what turns them on - guess it takes alsorts mouse has never gone across at those speeds, he is responsible for scything a channel marker down though......

"mouse has never gone across at those speeds, he is responsible for scything a channel marker down though...... " In his defence he didn't know it was there, as he was doing the washing up at the time and the post must have been rotten!

I'm just happy that it means there's no chance of me bumping into the lovely Rachael

wow. I'm sure that was a cwdf thread I just read. cal mentions errant hirers and everyone takes offence. now had she just said hirers. very simular to the piorites thread. there was even some flouncing going on for good measure. I especially liked the fact that so many people winged at her for making sweeping generalizations and then they all called her, he. had me in stitches

Rog I suspect that there is more than a grain of truth to that tale.. I have a similar tale that I witnessed first hand. I was handyman/gardener at a care home on Barton Broad and while cutting the grass by the boat house I noticed a hire boat towing another hire boat, as they drew near me I hailed them and asked if they needed me to phone the hire base, the reply cracked me up. " No it's OK we are just giving the other boat a bump start I left them to it because if I'd stayed I would have wet myself. I think this story is now well ensconced in Broads boating history. Phil

Phil Depending on the size/pitch of the prop, speed and compression of the engine, theoretically it might be possible to bump start the engine. If you have a decompressor fitted to to the engine, that would help get it turning over. Having said that, I doubt it would work on a narrow boat as the prop sizes are usually pretty small and you’d never get enough speed up.
