I bet they would if there was a race or religion element to it.

'rawson' - associated with East Europe Lady, seller of fine narrowboats in south Birmingham? Check 'rawson' on Ebay - boats section. What are you on about Foxy?

If someone wants to send him a PM and find out where exactly he is I might be able to help. I have experience with these things.

If so I can PM him if you Pm me your phone number. It would be quite good to post on CWDF that a now-banned member is off to help out!

I've sent a PM. Thanks. I’ve sent him a PM. His last post was 15 hrs ago, saying he was off to try to get tools. Since then there has been an outpouring of dross on that thread so whether he revisits it is debatable. But anyway, it is the thought that counts!

I suspect the main problem is that many of the regular posters over there do very little boating or even have a boat. Even if they did, they probably wouldn’t venture anywhere near scary London. There are some good’uns there of course who I’m sure would have offered practical help if they were nearby.

I can't promise this chap that I can get it off, it took two days to get the mattress off of my prop at Newton Heath and in the end my son and I dragged the boat through the next lock then drained the pound and I got it off with bolt croppers.

I'd uncouple the shaft from the gearbox and slide it back to give more room and loosen things up.
This does require a straight tail shaft and willingness to interfere with the drive line but it can make getting badly jammed shit off a lot easier.
I have not done this with a mattress but I did do it with a prop completely jammed by rope. Different problem but I reckon it would be worth a go.

This is one of the reasons I felt for the guy. I’ve had to remove lots of stuff off the prop over the years, but picking up a mattress must be a nightmare. The worst I’ve had was a ruck sack which I picked up in the last lock on the K&A just as I entered the Thames. Come to think about it, it always seems to happen when I’m about to enter the Thames...lol.

I believe they're regarded as a great delicacy in Arab countries. Do they actually eat he sheeps eyes or are they put on the table to show that the animal is fresh meat?

The problem with a mattress is that every time you manage to cut through a spring, you create two razor sharp spikes perfectly positioned to rip your hands to ribbons. That, plus the fact that my weed hatch appears to have been designed to be used by a dwarf with six elbows. Having said that, I think that having dealt with the problem once, the second time would be a lot easier. It certainly is a job which would be far easier with two people though. If he phones, I'll head on down. Even if I can't do anything else I can pick him up some supplies from Tesco if he's running low on provisions.

Looks like he's got it off now. He's trying to get it out of the cut but from experience I know that this will be near impossible as it will be so heavy.
