Thanks to all for the good wishes. Spent a glorious sunny afternoon gently pedalling up river to the nearest riverside grocery store to get some milk and butter. Thought I would give the fishing tackle a work-out enroute, but that was not a success. At least it was interesting watching the otherwise obscure fish-finder tell me how deep the river was. click.email.vimeo.com/?qs=b9bf0759ca45609590b4398f1a2f3e11cc4bc4121040b1d0da9959128cf99b753a775ed0787d19d17c79af77352ee8ebdd97458e93a85669d8ddff196bcb9e39 I did a couple of swerves in there, just to show off the steering and to thus provide interest. Any heavy panting audible in the background is purely put on for effect and not to be misinterpreted. Neighbours thoughtfully plied me with restorative & celebratory G&T’s upon my safe return to home port. A glass of Balvenie 12 year old double wood is accompanying a pipe of Three Nuns following dinner. The hand crafted pipe is the latest addition to my collection; an almost compulsory purchase from a third generation English pipe maker in a unique style, from his home/workshop on a narrowboat.

I am thinking of making my own though, as off the shelf is way too expensive. can they. the version with the out diggers is 7k though. great for fishing on the solent Yes they can – almost all anyway; a very simple kit despite the price. You are probably thinking of the Mirage Island trimarans; but even the smallest in the Hobie range – the 9’ Mirage Sport – is fitted with a sail mount. There is even a Torqueedo electric drive specific to the Hobie should you wish that option. Prices are indeed out of sight, but used ones come up occasionally on Gumtree and Ebay. I got my (fairly old, but immaculate) set-up for roughly a third of the new price. Not that I would have gone for fish-finders and rod mounts of course, but the wheel carts are a must for the bigger models. If you wanted outriggers for confidence while sailing, they even make a little inflatable float add-on for the standard kayaks, but it seems a little silly.
