That’s a very good rule, especially in low light conditions. I jumped off the back of my boat on the South Oxford a couple of years ago just as it was getting dark. My foot went straight into a hole which stayed put whilst the rest of my body shot forward head first onto the ground. I can still hear the sound of tendons tearing in my ankle now. Fortunately Chris was with me, but I honestly don’t know what I would have done if I was solo. It took over 6 months to fully heal. Ouch! Was that the year you had to shelve your plans for cruising the Nene? Yes, I think it was. It’s a possible for 2019, the Nene that is, not buggering up my ankle again....

mouse golden rule - nobody ever jumps from his boat, always step off at a standstill rather that a leap of faith over the watery abyss. Why do what he says? Do what you want to!! (actually I have the same sort of rule for the Witch who panics and usually makes a leap for it - there is no hurry, wait for the boat to slow down, and if we miss it this time we'll have another go) mouse rule is fairly sensible. I'm not a fan of daft rules though

I was going to post my experience ... but I realised it wasn't gained with this thread in mind, and I'd already told friends about it on facebook Rog

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I shall have to update my mooring list, there's been a couple of additions, a significant change, and if you make it in 2019 Friends of the River Nene hope to have their Jewel in the Crown mooring agreed and up and running.

It would take too long to post all my stupidity and as they are not boating related I'd hate to take a thread off topic......

Or a very windy day when I was having problems mooring up in a tight space. Lady off the boat behind offered to help, so I threw her the stern rope at full force so that it would reach her......
Unfortunately I forgot to loop the other end around the T stud, so she got the whole rope delivered straight in the face (and I was still stranded). Medicinal brandy was received in good faith though 🤕
