what a larf.
I've seen people with containers of what looks suspiciously like human faeces on the roof or decks of their boats. I don't understand it but there seems to be quite a lot of "attitude" about composting toilets its a bit like the vegan problem.
I don't doubt it is a sound solution for remote houses with gardens but I do doubt it is a sound solution for canal boats.
I wonder where CRT have been finding the waste?
1. Blocking up sanity stations/elsan points.
2. In the bushes
3. In the cut
And where does the piss go?

Could be some interesting developments in the next few years
potentially a loo that burns poo, that uses the energy from the burning to purify urine to drinking water standard, no need for a power source or water connection. Now that would be a perfect loo for a boat.

That would be a shit loo for a boat, how do you dry the poo in the first place, in order to burn it?

The link won't load for me.
However I don't believe there are problems with genuine composters.
From what I have read, the issues relate to those who claim to be 'composting' but actually just bag human waste and dispose in bins.
Composting is a long term thing.

Its a heated debate about whether burning human waste is sound but it seems sensible and I think humans have been doing it for ages.
The composting thing needs storage space. Often a problem on all but the largest UK inland vessels.
I'm not organised enough to see it through but I think my "shitslinger" waste freezer-mortar system has some merit for boat use.
Freeze both materials (no need to separate) into little cylinders which then get launched by a compressed air mortar like a large airgun. Phone app to estimate trajectory and distance of travel with automatic weather data input so it does not come back at you.
"out of shite out of mind".
Expected customer reviews like "shit that's good" or "wow that's good shit" or "what a crap idea".
Power and compressed air to come from engine or solar system.

It would be pretty easy to arrange a vented shit-drying chamber. How about a kettle of shit on top of the stove with a 1.25" flexible removable flue routed to a deck head collar. Get the smell out of the boat. An added advantage of this could be it might put others off mooring too close. I think burning wet shit could be deemed offensive but drying it first might be okay.
Its not beyond the wit of man to design a shitkettle.
Once the moisture has been removed via the flue you remove the top and get the dried shit out with a soup ladle and put it into the fire for heating.
All parts to be made of 316 stainless.
