The Landlord of the Lion used to have a Fiat panda that he could just squeeze over the bridge to collect his dray, is that the right word? His Mrs used to walk around with two tiny dogs in a basket. Consall Forge and that part of the Caldon Canal is probably the most beautiful part of the network I've ever been to. The Llangollen Canal is lovely but I would say the Caldon is even more so as you travel through "little Switzerland", and with only a tenth of the boat traffic.

I do like a pie, which is probably why I'm such a fat bastard

Lovely photo - well done Mister... although it WOULD have been enhanced by having a ginner driving the train - //// just saying ;-) There is not one single situation in life which cannot be improved by having a ginger-headed person involved in it. I love ginger people, honestly I do, and I cannot understand those who claim that they are genetic misfits who should be wiped from the face of the Earth.

I reckon that has competition fro the Summit Pass on the Rochdale, well, from Hebden to Littleborough. Fewer boats and stunning scenery, very occasionally a steam train goes by too.

Unprepared mardie southerners thinking a big knife will solve all their problems. Bolt croppers are what you really need.

Iβm a pro snapper. Was at a dinner party when the host showed me her portfolio. Not exactly pro, but I said they were very nice. She said βIβve seen your work, itβs fantastic, you must have a great camera.β
As we left I thanked her for a lovely evening and said βThat was a fantastic meal, you must have some great pots and pans.β
